Trump's approval rating among voters under 35 years old is down to just 17% (!) via new Quinnipiac poll just released.

Young people? Gone.
Latinos? Gone.
African-Americans? Gone.
LGBT? Gone.
The national-security voters are getting anxious as well I guess.
And the tax-cut constituency is getting angry at McConnell for not delivering those tax-cuts.
But don't worry, GOP. You will always have "fine people" like Bannon and christian extremists like Ted Cruz as your voters. No way they will turn on you.

Election Day should be a federal holiday. Denying anyone paid time to vote should be illegal. Primary Day should a state holiday, for starters.

(1,336 posts)I have a grand-niece in 3rd year university in Michigan who voted for the first time last November. She grew up in a strong Republican household and did vote for Dolt45. She is so appalled and disgusted by the way "her President" is behaving, and vows never, EVER to vote GOP again. She's now working on her parents.
So there's that......

(4,608 posts)And they can be easily dissuaded from voting in presidentials with a short course of "they're both the same" campaigning from the Jill Stein left. Under-35's are really only important when the candidate is seen as hip and charismatic and relevant, like Obama was, and like sax-playing Bill was in '92.
As someone who is in this demographic I hear this all the time. You can't reason with the young people of the country. I wish people would stop making excuse for us.

(396 posts)In terms of the age bracket. People Under 35 will be 3 years older when times comes around to vote for 2020. 25 year olds will be 28 and starting families. 30 year olds will be 33, 35 year olds will be 38 and pushing 40. Millennials will have a firmer grasp of the electorate in 2020. The older voters that Trump depended on in 2016 will even be fewer in number in 2020 and we all know the only reason he won in 2016 is because of massive, historic voter suppression against non-White voters. That's not a trick he can pull again in 2020 and the GOP may even be too shamed of Trump to pull another CrossCheck scam. But I think the GOP is run by sellouts and treasonous SOBs at this point anyway...so we can't put anything past them.
I said on Twitter that Trump's base is prepared to sacrifice democracy to maintain their power and control in this country and democracy just may have to be destroyed for them to do that. The long-term ramifications that might have could severely damage this country beyond repair IMHO.

(37,648 posts)Voter suppression will be key in 2020, though. They've been working on it already.
I believe the age group that voted most for Trump is middle aged. They will still be around in 3 years, and they are reliable voters.
The 60+ crowd is most reliable voting group.
Then it's the 45-59 age group.
Then it's the 30-44 age group. Third largest voter turnout.
And there are a lot of middle aged and older people. Baby boomers. They are very reliable voters.

(396 posts)The biggest conspiracy of the 2016 election wasn't Russia, it was CrossCheck. Look up investigative reporter Greg Palast and the work he's done on it. Joy Reid has even had him on a couple times to talk about it. The rest of the media is ignoring it though because that's the REAL reason Trump won, but they're propping up the Russia narrative because they can blame Trump's ascendency on a foreign adversary and not point the finger at fellow Americans who may have blatantly broken the law and violated the Constitutional voting rights of millions of Americans in over 20 states. It's easier to just blame Russia.
I'm not saying Russia didn't meddle in the election, I believe they did. To what extent though is still under investigation, but even the Feds have said they have no evidence that anything Russia did actually flipped votes. If that's the evidence you're waiting for...it's not going to come. Either they're going to cover that angle up to protect the integrity of U.S. elections in the eyes of the public and not show how ancient and anachronistic our voting system is...or it didn't actually happen.
The REAL conspiracy is the conspiracy that no one is talking about because it doesn't implicate a foreign power, but Republicans in office right now at the State level.
Millions of mostly non-White voters who vote majority Democrat (so Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics) were erroneously and intentionally labeled "double voters" because their last names "matched" voters with the same last name in other States. So their votes were not counted in the official tally. Kris Kobach was the architect of this system and Greg Palast was the first one to point him out. Now Kobach sits at the head of Trump's "voter commission." The cover story is that they're trying to prove that Trump actually won the popular vote. Trust me, that's a bullshit cover story. They KNOW Trump didn't win the popular vote. The voter commission is really about voter suppression.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)That was enough to do it. I believe that because the results in those states were against almost all the polls in the few days leading up to the election, as well as not jiving with exit polls.
It's historical for 12 of 13 election polls to be wrong. Never happened before. I don't think it did happen.
I didn't get that from the MSM. I have a brain of my own. I suspected this on election night...because it didn't make sense and didn't jive with almost all the data. Something was wrong.

(396 posts)happen. I personally don't think Trump is a legitimate President and I think members of the GOP were aware of an agenda to force him into office. I think they saw back-to-back Dem Presidents as their death knell because they'd HAVE to put a Democratic nominee on the Supreme Court. They didn't want to listen to a black man THEN a woman. Plus I think they were hellbent on destroying Obama's legacy
This is the closest we've come to a coup because our voting process is weak and if our voting process is weak, then American democracy is weak. Much weaker than we thought.
The only good news for us is that Trump is such an incredible disaster that if he falls, he just might take the GOP with him. I doubt it, but I don't think this country will be the same post-Trump. I think there's a deep cultural fissure that won't be healed this generation. I think some of us who live through this will despise the right-wing for many years to come. It's gone beyond simple political disagreements at this point.

(37,648 posts)60+ has biggest turnout.
45-59 is next.
30-44 is third.
18-29 is last, having the lowest turnout.
If you want to win elections, gotta reach the older crowd. There's a lot of baby boomers, and they vote with a high turnout, come rain or shine.
