The sky is orange, ash falling like snowflakes and smoke drifting into my office got so bad that I had to work form home.I've never experience a scene this eerie before in my life. Stay safe, everyone.

(51,590 posts)One year in San Diego I woke up from a Sunday afternoon nap and thought it was dawn and I had somehow slept through the entire night and had better get dressed for work. Then it slowly dawned on me that it was still Sunday and the sky was a deep orange due to a giant, fast moving wildfire. Ashes were falling and they were like potatoes chips. That was in 2003 and schools were closed for a week, that never had happened before but it happened again only 4 years later in 2007. 1,500 home were lost and many friends, students and other teachers lost their homes.

(36,423 posts)It was sucky the other day, then the North Wind kicked back in and pushed all that crap south and away. I'm not complaining, plus I can now watch the firefighting aircraft flying back and forth from McClellan AFB. There is a 747 is the stable this year!

(63,221 posts)Please stay safe. I can't imagine what it must be like, but I am sure it is terrifying. It must seem almost apocalyptic.

(58,805 posts)Between the bad air, news coverage and second-hand stories from almost everyone, it's a slow motion natural disaster.

(63,221 posts)lived. I always remember feeling like those dry hills were a tinderbox. It's such a beautiful place. I am in mourning for the loss of lives and property. What a loss. I am so sorry for you and everyone there.
