(1 post)Had it not been for his father, he would be still alive, and probably not in prison. Shameful!

(25,895 posts)This is a clear example of why it is so barbaric.
Our criminal "justice" system in reality does not recognize to possibility of rehabilitation, which is why we have life without parole. Which is likewise totally barbaric, as it gives zero incentive to behaving well while in prison. Why bother? You'll never get out, so it doesn't matter.
Recently there was a thread here about Susan Smith, the woman who killed her two young sons, and I was horrified at the total lack of sympathy or understanding for her. She's one who has a life without parole sentence, so whatever she does behind bars can be justified, because nothing she can ever do will ever open the possibility of leaving prison.

(31,121 posts)We really are too dumb, mean, childish, stupid, destructive, etc., as a society to be allowed to continue.
UN needs to isolate and brand us as dangerous and not to do business with.
Also, I think likely the human race itself simply doesnt deserve this planet, but after last Nov this country sure as SHIT doesn't.
