exactly the same age as Sen Feinstein I would be saying that it's time for him retire...

IDK anything about State Senate President Kevin De Leon, but I hope he is a progressive and forward-thinking Dem.

Feinstein is 84 years old. She is not pushing Grassley on the investigations like she should be.. It's not about age discrimination. it's about competence. We need VIGOROUS push back against these Nazis

Kevin de León formally launches bid to unseat Sen. Dianne Feinstein

De León has made his mark as the leader of the Senate. Since Trump’s election in November, he’s helped lead the body’s resistance to the president. As a lawmaker, he is known for carrying far-reaching legislation on climate change, gun-control and immigration. His emergence from the Legislature comes at a time of relative productivity, a point he makes often when comparing the passage of legislation there with what’s moving in Congress.

Aides and strategists acknowledge he will not be able to keep pace with Feinstein in direct fundraising given her decades of raising money for federal office. But they expect outside progressive groups that believe Feinstein needs to go to step up and support him. She had $3.6 million in her account through June.

Democracy for America, a progressive group with nearly 300,000 members in the state, came out with an immediate endorsement Sunday of de León, citing his work as a young community organizer battling Proposition 187 and his leadership in the push for single-payer healthcare in the Legislature.

He “didn’t ask people to sit back and wait, hoping maybe Trump would someday turn out OK,” Executive Director Charles Chamberlain said. “He immediately began working to pass policies that would help the people most immediately affected by Trump’s bigoted, greedy policies.”

California will elect a Democratic Senator. A vigorous primary here poses very little risk of losing this Senate seat. We have the freedom here to have debates we need to have about the direction of the party. There is no problem here.

Here's to hoping that de Leon can come in second to Feinstein in the jungle primary. It could be a huge boost to down ballot Democratic candidates.

Feinstein is number 8 in the seniority list. She is currently the top Democrat on the US Senate Judiciary Committee.
If Feinstein were to lose in November 2018 to DeLeon, Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) becomes the top Democrat on the US Senate Judiciary Committee.
DeLeon will be number 99 in Seniority before Hawley (R-MO) and after
Rosen (D-NV) 98
Sinema (D-AZ) 97
Messer/Rokita (R-IN) 96
Blackburn (R-TN) 95
Pallone/Holt (D-NJ) 94
Moore (R-AL)93

There is no partisan primary here in California. I’ll vote for the candidate who I believe will support policies I would like the best. This is not some sort of Clinton/Sanders factionalism. My sense is that De Leon is more representative of the mainstream of the Democratic Party in California.
