"Cynical speculation"..."he could not care less about a state that despises him like no other"

According to the editorial board of the San Francisco Gate, “As raging wildfires devour the lives, homes and dreams of Californians in an unprecedented scale, one voice has been conspicuously mute through day after day of crisis: President Trump.”

***

The attack on Trump went on to note that the President talks a good game on Twitter — such as helping hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico — before backing off and tweeting, “We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. forever!”

“This is a president who views tweets as his primary means of connecting with the people, without the media filter he loathes. Dare we suggest that forcing NFL players to stand for the national anthem — to name one of his recent obsessions — is not a life-and-death situation. The fires are,” the piece scolded. “And how many times has Trump tweeted about the fires since they were whipped by winds into life-threatening force early Monday: zero.”

“How can it be that the loss of 40 human beings on American soil did not merit a single tweet?” the editorial asked. “The most forgiving interpretation would be that Trump, along with the cable networks that seem to attract his laser focus and have not made this a huge story, have a case of disaster fatigue. Perhaps the problem is that he hasn’t been blasted for his underwhelming response: There is no surer way to provoke him to his phone. The most cynical speculation would be that he could not care less about a state that despises him like no other.”

No, there is no "cynical speculation" about it.

As others have written, Trump's "loyalty" or "compassion" extends only as far as what he's going to get in return.

By the way, Peggy, my good friend, unofficial "older brother" and mentor in California told my yesterday that his sister lost her home, and everything in it, to the current wildfires.

I left California at the end of 2012...I was "priced out of existence"...but after having lived 4 decades of my life in the state, a big part of me will always be Californian.

It has been terrible, especially in the northern part of the state. Many folks have lost everything. It is incomprehensible.

Wow... that is a pretty powerful combination of words.

It also describes very aptly what trump has done to the US. The Hurricanes/ Flooding/ Wildfires/ Shooting have been horrible enough to deal with but those disasters we cannot control (except the shooting if we wanted to.) Then add in the drama of the daily temper tantrums by trump and the uncertainty he injects to this country by his lack of stability and this country is right on the edge. The man is a modern day Nero and congress needs to act.

Sounds a lot like hitler, as Germany was burning around him. It was the German peoples fault, not his. Maybe trump, is on some of the same drugs , as hitler.

and while the people of California didn't vote for him, the American citizens of Puerto Rico COULD not vote for him (and would not, if given the chance).

Stay away you fucking moron! I for one do not want to see his fat ass on our blue soil. He would only use it as an opportunity to insult us and sell some of his shitty $40 MAGA hats. Our governor and two senators have all ready proven what real leaders look like and how they should act.
