Security Experts Predict Changes in the Wake of Las Vegas

Oh boy

snip

security professionals predict changes are in store both for destination hotels and major music festivals.

multiple security consultants and professionals said festival promoters would likely think twice before hosting events in the shadow of large buildings again.

"What you could consider, which I think would not go very far, is that maybe you could have snipers on other buildings,"

He predicted that hotel staff would receive increased training in identifying suspicious people, and warned travelers that they should begin to expect increased, airport-style security at hotels in destination cities.

"My opinion is that they need to get used to it very quickly, because it's coming, not only bag checks, but magnetometers as well," Yachmetz said.

rather than travel has its advantages, huh

In 27 years of marriage we've spent the night in a hotel a total of 4 nights. Those were because of classes she had to take that were too far away to drive to each day.

between watching housecleaning wipe glasses with dirty towels, wondering what dna is on the bedspread, taking a cattle call flight for the privilege, and having traveled for work for 40 years, I try to stay away from hotels anyway.

2. Ban the guns to stop shootings. Ban anything not a single shot hunting rifle

That's a good way to reduce shootings.

6. Here's the problem: We have an open society. There are an unlimited number of soft targets.

You can "harden" major hotels. You can take all concerts into indoor venues where access can be controlled. It will just displace the copycats to other targets.

You expect Marriott or Hilton to install metal detectors? If you have ever stayed at a major hotel in a major city you're talking people coming and going constantly. There would be no way to manage that nor would I want them to. I supposes you could check luggage into a hotel and it could be scanned and sent to your room...but if we end up locking everything down so much it will be a truly miserable world.

Impose more rules on the shooters and their guns and fewer on those who serve as live target practice.

It's like finally recognizing the #MeToo problem and proposing it shoudl be solved by putting more contros on what women can wear, when we can go out at night, etc.
