Rick Scott is declaring a state of emergency because a white supremacist is going to speak.

Gotta love it. Now I KNOW that the police state he's going to tap into isn't there to protect the protesters.

I was wondering why things seemed a little weirder than usual around the community.

Gov. Rick Scott declares state of emergency ahead of white nationalist's speech

Citing past clashes and protests, Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Monday declared a state of emergency in advance of a speech white nationalist Richard Spencer is scheduled to give at the University of Florida.

The state's Republican governor warned in an executive order Monday that a "threat of a potential emergency is imminent" in Alachua County, in north Florida. Spencer is slated to speak at the campus on Thursday and his pending appearance has already sparked protests in the university town.

Spencer participated in a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, that led to deadly violence in August.

Scott's executive order will allow local law-enforcement authorities to partner with state and other law-enforcement agencies to provide security for the event. The university has already said it expects to spend $500,000 on security.

but why does anybody have to offer up $500K for his right? If he is going to piss off people to the extent that it will cause violence, then it's on him, no government guarantee of "safe spaces".

It's fairly obvious to me that the state is encouraging this kind of bullshit because they condone it. That Scott bastard probably is all for Spencer and his buddies from the looks of this shit.

And, yes, they like to stir up the shit, and then pretend that they had nothing to do with creating a hostile environment.

That's the narrative we need to promote: rethugs are paying dearly to create safe spaces for these snowflakes.

IMO, the people who are going to protest will never believe that Scott is thinking about their welfare when the police force shows up.

so much as he is concerned with it spiraling out of control and people getting hurt. That would be far worse for him, overall.

in Congress remove Trump. It's the only way that they will ever be taken seriously. Trump is creating uncertainty, or rather, a certainty that he will support the wrong factions in our society.

and this administration's over-reliance on racist support. Trump could curtail that pressure if his actions supported a more diverse agenda. But, he's doing the opposite. So, it's up to the Congress to show leadership on this issue.

It's worth a try to see if it will cut down on the concern that these protests will get out of control.

I guess we will see what will happen. Hope everyone has their phones charged for filming.
