On October 4, four American Special Forces soldiers were killed during an operation in Niger. Since then, the White House has been notably tight-lipped about the incident. During a press conference Monday afternoon, 12 days after the deaths, President Trump finally made his first public comments, but the remarksin which he admitted he had not yet spoken with the families and briefly attacked Barack Obamadid little to clarify what happened or why the soldiers were in Niger.
Trump spoke at the White House after a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and was asked why he hadnt spoken about deaths of Sergeant La David Johnson and Staff Sergeants Bryan Black, Dustin Wright, and Jeremiah Johnson.
Ive written them personal letters, Trump said. Theyve been sent out or theyre going out tonight, but they were written during the weekend. I will at some point during the period of time call the parents, or the families. Because I have done that traditionally. I felt very, very badly about that. Its the toughest callthe toughest calls I have to make are the calls where this happens. Soldiers are killed. Its a very difficult thing. Now it gets to a point where you make four or five of them in one day, its very very tough. For me thats the toughest.
Those comments join Trump with many of his predecessors, who have also spoken publicly about the burden of sending troops into battle, and the wrenching process of speaking with the families of slain servicemembers. But then Trump went on to suggest that other presidents hadnt done what he did.

Yeah, well no, he is lying about sending letters, but why were the special troops there?

The whole campaign was a wrestling act. I'd be shocked if Vince McMahon was very involved.

it's how he knows about foreign policy, health care, the economy, taxes, aliens, hair styles, and cake. If we lose Sean I have no idea where Trump will turn to learn about the world...

If he did hear, he probably thought it was fake news, because no one would name a country that...

It's all about how hard it is for HIM. If I were a wife or mother of a fallen soldier, I'd hang up on him if he called.

(5,810 posts)7. He always has to make himself look great by implying or straight out
saying his predecessors were bad or lacking in some way. In his own ham handed way, he thinks he elevates his own standing by tearing another person or persons down. Then if he is called on his obvious mistake, he casually says...well, that is what I was told. Always pass the buck, you asshole. Never ever accept blame. To never be able to say you made a mistake or that you misspoke is a terrible sign of personality disorder. He gives himself away EVERY TIME HE OPENS HIS MOUTH. He hasnt realized that fact yet, but we are on to him. Just keep talking, asswipe. We have you pegged and it aint pretty.
