WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Wednesday backed away from a bipartisan deal from two U.S. senators to stabilize Obamacare by restoring subsidies to health insurers, one day after signaling his support for the plan.
The agreement reached by Republican Senator Lamar Alexander and Democratic Senator Patty Murray would continue billions of dollars of subsidies to insurers for two years to help lower-income Americans obtain medical coverage. Trump last week announced that he would end the subsidies, potentially creating chaos in the 2018 health insurance markets set up under Obamacare.
I am supportive of Lamar as a person & also of the process, but I can never support bailing out ins cos who have made a fortune w/ OCare, Trump wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Trump had indicated support of the agreement during a news conference, saying the White House had been involved in the negotiations and that the agreement would be a short-term solution that would get us over this intermediate hump.

And he has no desire to spend the time to find out.

He was told this current proposal will not pass, so he is now against it.
Totally inept.

(5,810 posts)5. If he could just keep his mouth shut for one day or two.
It seems he feels he HAS to make a statement being for or against a proposal. That rarely lasts for more than 24 hours before he bails out or withdraws his support. I guess that is what he calls keeping his enemies off balance about what he will ultimately do. Keep em guessing is his mantra. What he fails to realize is that it makes him look wish washy, unable to make up his mind.
It makes my heart happy to think how this buffoon will be regarded by historians when the history of his presidency is written. It ought to make for some....shall we say....interesting reading. tRump wont like it if he is still around to find out what they say about him.
