LOS ANGELES – A man accused of torturing his girlfriend's 8-year-old son to death killed the child because he thought the boy was gay, a Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office prosecutor said during opening statements Monday.

Isauro Aguirre's defense attorney said his client admits to causing the injuries on Gabriel Fernandez's body, but that it only happened because Aguirre exploded in rage after Gabriel told his mom to leave her boyfriend, according to KTLA.

Aguirre, 32, is charged with murder with a special circumstance of torture.

Prosecutor Jon Hatami detailed the acts allegedly committed by Aguirre and the boy's mother, Pearl Fernandez, who also faces trial.

Hatami explained that the Palmdale couple beat Gabriel, bit him, burned him with cigarettes, whipped him, shot him with a B.B. gun, starved him, fed him cat litter, and kept him gagged and bound in a small cubby until he was found on May 22, 2013. The couple called first responders to treat Gabriel, but that was only in an attempt to mislead, the prosecutor said.

Six-foot-2-inch Aguirre weighed 270 pounds at the time of the death, the prosecutor said, comparing his size to that of Gabriel, who was 59 pounds and 4 feet 1 inch tall.

“The evidence will show that the defendant is nothing more than a bully," Hatami said. "He was a security guard who intentionally tortured and abused a helpless and innocent little boy.”

While I'm more than willing to blame Trump for practically anything, including my sore throat tonight, I think this one is 100% on Mr. Aguirre, and I hope he gets a fair trial with the best possible defense. Then, when he's found guilty, I hope the judge throws the book at him.

which he, Bannon, Pence and all the other GOP enablers would gladly see more of. They fervently believe that this kind of terrible abuse is the natural fate of their selected victims. That is what predators do: project their disturbing vision of their own fear onto a victim or a selected group of victims. In their twisted point of view that grants them license to harm their victims or to encourage others to enact it for them. The KKK and other notable groups work the same way.

The last year has seen an incredible outpouring of racism, sexism, and violence from a corner of our society that had been much quieter in the last 20 years. It's almost like they've been given permission or something. Like they heard something that only their ears hear.

...when Gabriel was murdered, and the "parents" arrested.

Today's testimony in the case against the monster Aguirre came from Gabriel's now 16 y.o. brother.

Aguirre was not alone in his savagery against a defenseless 49 pound child, apparently "mom" broke out Gabriel's teeth with a bat.

In 62 years on the planet, this is literally one of the most horrific and heinous acts of violence ever perpetrated on an innocent child that I have ever heard of (excluding criminal acts of war), and it went on for something like eight months.

There have been criminal arrests of child protective service workers for willfully ignoring the plight of Gabriel, I think their trials are upcoming, but don't know when.

did I open this thread and read it?

Horrifying.

Monsters.

They deserve the worst punishment that the courts can throw at them.

Poor little boy. Suffering so severely at their hands. At the hands of adults who should have cared for him.
