Are they a gift from God, too? I thought the republican Draft-Dodger-in-Chief was soaking America's hard-working taxpayers to the tune of $3 million a pop for his gala goofy golf outings.

Maybe this is good news. I mean, if deluxe republican golfing is also a GIFT FROM GOD, then republicans can refund to us taxpayers the millions upon millions they have already plucked from our wallets for their petty luxury amusement.

I remember when Palin first came on the stage, there was a woman (whose name escapes me) frantically trying to get people to wake up about the 7 Mountains Dominionist movement.

They seem to be accomplishing their goals at the highest levels of government.

To be honest, I knew they had their feet in the door at local levels but overall thought It Can't Happen Here

Walking across a bridge one day, one man saw another man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So the first man ran over and said, "Stop! Don't do it!" "Why shouldn't I?" the second man said. The first man said, "Well, there's so much to live for!" "Like what?" the suicidal man said said. "Well, are you religious or atheist?" "Religious." "Me too! Are your Christian or Buddhist?" "Christian." "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?" "Protestant." "Me too! Are your Episcopalian or Baptist?" "Baptist!" "Wow! Me too! Are your Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord? "Baptist Church of God!" "Me too! Are your Original Baptist Church of God or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?" "Reformed Baptist Church of God!" "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?" "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!" The first man said "Die, heretic scum!" and pushed him off.

Right out of C.S. Lewis. The "Devil" wants us to parse our

It keeps us divided and hateful. Schisms expand on forever.

The Declaration (written by the same folks who wrote the Constitution) clearly says the right are inalienable. Nowhere has anybody ever said the rights are bestowed by the gov't. In fact, the whole Bill of Rights was put in place to show what the gov't COULD NOT do to infringe on these "inalienable" rights.

This is just red meat for his undereducated and willfully ignorant followers.

Hopefully I didn’t misunderstand you post but he does mention Christianity. He states in his own tweet “freedom is a gift from god”. This clearly ties our ability to be free to a grace from a Christian god and disregards the hundreds of years of civics, hard work and blood it took to not only get those freedoms but to keep them.

Saying that our freedoms are a “gift from god” is an unambiguous Christian reference coming from him.

While Islam, Judaism and Christianity all have the same “god” the context and that a Christian god is the object that grants us that grace is clear.

I find it repugnant that the hard work, blood and tears of millions, from our Founding Fathers to protesters in the street today, are disregarded in a single sentence “freedom is not a gift from government” and the praise is attached to a Bronze Age fairy tale, disturbing.

Fri Oct 20, 2017, 06:42 PM
Oct 2017

Ever since that party climbed in bed with rightwing evangelicals post 1973, it has become more and more theocratic. Where do you think people like Roy Moore came from.

Roe v Wade caused the religious right to look for political power and republicans gave them that party. They have been going more extreme since. My moral compass causes me to have qualms about abortion, but I also feel that decision is to be made by the woman carrying the fetus and no one else. My Moral compass also causes me to work to feed hungry kids by any means, a view that many on the religious right hate, they think that the mom that they force to have a child that she can't feed is responsible for her situation, if only she had kept her legs closed they say, at least until one of their teen daughters get knocked up.
