Republicans who obsessed over Benghazi silent on 4 US troops killed in Niger

Republicans who obsessed over Benghazi silent on 4 US troops killed in Niger
Republicans who pushed multiple investigations for years into the attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi have nothing to say on the deaths of four soldiers in Niger.
By Oliver Willis OCTOBER 20, 2017

Republicans who obsessively probed the attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi have been silent on the raid authorized by Donald Trump, against military warnings, where four American soldiers were killed in an ambush thought to be led by ISIS.

Of the seven Republicans who were on the Select Committee on Benghazi, five remain: Reps. Susan Brooks of Indiana; Trey Gowdy of South Carolina; Jim Jordan of Ohio; Martha Roby of Alabama; and Peter Roskam of Illinois. Georgia Rep. Lynn Westmoreland has retired, while former Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo now serves as Trump’s duplicitous head of the CIA.

Shareblue Media reviewed media reports, press releases, and tweets from the group, and none of them has spoken about the Niger raid overall, or specifically the deaths of the four soldiers.

Oh and by the way: there will be no Congressional investigation of Niger. Investigations are only for Democrats!

Such as being on the defensive against bullshit accusations of widespread voter fraud, instead of screaming bloody murder about race-based voter suppression.

McCain is more likely to make a stink about Niger than Democrats are.

Gee, I can't imagine why Republicans control the White House, US House, US Senate, a clear majority of governorships and far more state legislative bodies. Yep, I'm really scratching my head trying to figure it out.

Republicans control the narrative (on criminal justice, on voting, on foreign policy, on values, on media bias, on government spending, and everything under the sun). And, in spite of becoming increasingly batshit insane, they have more power than at any point in modern history. Yet there are those who insist the Democratic Party can do no wrong, that all Democrats have to do is let the Republican Party implode and for the masses to see the error of their ways (be they nonvoters or Republicans). How does one draw that conclusion in light of the massive power imbalance? How?!?

Will Rogers nailed it.

you have a billionaire-sponsored hard right-wing cable TV network and hundreds of talk radio stations supporting your bullshit, and having spewed their propaganda for decades. We now have millions of brainwashed souls.

Democrats have little of no parallel media voice. Plus, it's really hard to sensationalize and fear-monger when your dealing out facts, compassion and reason!

25. A congressional investigation of what happened in Niger would be a disaster

Here's what the findings would be:

1. US Special Operations teams play a critical role in training and assisting African militaries to suppress groups like Al Qaeda that were able to fester in Afghanistan due to a weak central government.
2. The way that Special Operations trains is to go in the field with their soldiers
3. In Niger, our soldiers were without any type of close air support, and had to rely on French forces to launch Mirage jets that weren't even capable of engaging in battle.
4. Future missions need better air intelligence from drones as well as better close air support
5. Providing meaningful close air support is going to require bases, as this kind of support can't be provided in Africa via carrier based aircraft
6. Creating American bases in Africa is going to create targets for extremists to attack. We'll need a small contingent of infantry in order to secure those bases.
7. Our infantry forces may need to ramp up in order to clear the areas around those bases

And that is how we went to war in Vietnam. A congressional investigation here would hand war hawks an endless war in Africa on a silver bipartisan platter.

I wish they would though. We need to grow a backbone. Many at DU do not agree with me. The GOP have written books on how to lie, cheat and steal their way to the top for 30 years. Our country has seen such corruption at every level and in every branch of government since Reagan. They are the party of hatred, greed and hypocrisy.
