Carol Swain is a former professor of political science at Vanderbilt University with a considerable social media presence. She's notable for defending white nationalism after events such as the Charlottesville protests.
Oh, and she's black. Yes....she's vocally apologized for white nationalism, and she's also black. I don't get it, either, but it's proof that there's every sort of person out in this weird world, including black white nationalists.
Today, on Facebook and Twitter, she accused black Democrats of "using and manipulating" other blacks such as Myeshia Johnson for their own benefit.
The comment response from her predominantly white followers was almost 100% in agreement.
So let's sum this up:
White conservatives who use a black figure as a justification (i.e. their "black friend" ) for their own bigoted belief systems cheer on that black figure attacking other black people for supposedly using other black people for reasons they don't agree with.
Does anyone else see the weird contortions that are needed to get to that point?

(43,182 posts)" Is it manipulating or patronizing? Im thinking about the time Tim Kaine went to Miami and addressed a group of Hispanics in Spanish. In Miami, the majority of Hispanics are Cuban. Which means refugees who value religion and family and work. And who speak English. Mislabeling by ALL Hispanics as left leaning is a mistake. Ergo, Florida went red and Obamas took revenge on Cubans by banning them in his last week as president."
(For the record, the commenter is a white, non-Hispanic woman.)
So, in this person's mind, Cuban Hispanics value religion, family, work, and speak English. (And also were "banned" by President Obama.)
Presumably, by converse this means other Hispanics who aren't Cuban (Mexicans, Costa Ricans, Nicaraguans, Dominicans.....hell, she'd probably throw Puerto Ricans in there at this point) don't value religion, family, work and refused to speak English.
Someone should also point out to this rocket surgeon that:
A) The Cuban community in Miami still speaks Spanish as their native and frequently primary language; and
B) Miami-Dade County (where the overwhelming majority of Cuban Americans live in Florida) went for Hillary Clinton.
