First we have Sarah Palin, then all these others who are of rock filled brains! Now we see a new kind of brainless GOP! Kelly Ward is clueless and outright scary!

1. We are witnessing the end of empire

The "American Century" is ending.

We are hollowing out from the inside. We still have the strongest military in the world but...

My generation (end of baby boomers) was the last where we expect to do better than our parents.

The middle class is disappearing. Our values (which were always not perfect) are now shown to be things that we do not believe in. Justice for all. One person one vote. Truth. All people created equal.

What is left is jingoistic patriotism. And a collective need to either blame someone (immigrants) or stick our heads in the collective sands (climate change, fossil fuels, manufacturing jobs) and a desire to return to the times of our cultural "zenith" (1950s).

And we get Sarah Palin (she arrived too early) and Roy Moore and Kelly Ward.
