Letter to an Alleged "Intelligent Man"

Today I heard you, Trumpy, describe yourself as an “intelligent man”. Allow me to describe an “intelligent man” for you – as you apparently have little familiarity with the concept.

An intelligent man doesn’t lie repeatedly about things that are easily disproven – like insisting that your inauguration crowd was bigger than Obama’s when videos and stills of the event clearly show the opposite.

An intelligent man doesn’t fabricate stories about congratulatory phone calls that never happened (e.g. The Boy Scouts of America) – and which ultimately leads the alleged callers to publicly deny having made any such calls.

An intelligent man doesn’t make completely ridiculous campaign promises – like getting Mexico to pay for a border wall, or promising to replace Obamacare with a healthcare plan that covers everyone at lowered premiums – things that are obviously NOT going to happen.

An intelligent man has a vocabulary of more than a few hundred words, can spell, knows the difference between words like “heel” and “heal”, and doesn’t require his daily briefings to be reduced to bullet-points because he has the attention span of a gnat.

An intelligent man has no need to keep telling everyone that he’s “intelligent”. An intelligent man’s intelligence is obvious in the way he speaks, the way he writes, and the way he conducts himself. By the same token, a truly stupid man exposes his lack of intellect by conducting himself like a fucking moron.

An intelligent man understands the responsibilities and duties of his job, whatever job he holds. And if that job is the presidency of the United States, an intelligent man in that position wouldn’t waste his time watching TV, tweeting, and playing golf.

An intelligent man takes responsibility for his own actions and statements, and doesn’t blame others for his own mistakes or failings.

An intelligent man, when barraged with negative publicity as a result of his words or actions (like his treatment of a Gold Star widow, for example) doesn’t double-down and repeatedly attack her – thereby prompting even more negative publicity.

An intelligent man doesn’t keep proving exactly how lacking in intelligence he is every time he opens his mouth.

An intelligent man doesn’t accuse his presidential predecessors of “tapping his wires”, spying on him, and/or saying they didn’t contact the families of fallen soldiers without proof – especially when the readily-available facts contradict those accusations.

An intelligent man knows that he doesn’t know everything, and surrounds himself with advisors who have expertise in areas he may be lacking knowledge of. An intelligent man does not surround himself with lackeys and “yes men” who have absolutely NO experience in the areas they are appointed to advise on or oversee.

An intelligent man addresses facts straight on, and doesn’t dismiss everything he doesn’t like as “fake news”, hoaxes, or a conspiracy against him.

An intelligent man doesn’t hand over highly classified information to the very people (Russians) he is accused of colluding with – while denying that any such collusion ever occurred.

An intelligent man doesn’t tweet incoherent “covfefe” on a daily basis, doesn’t insult our global allies, doesn’t encourage violence towards those who disagree with him, doesn’t accuse honest journalists of “fake news” while quoting well-known “fake news” sites, and doesn’t keep digging when he finds himself in a hole.

In short, Trumpy, an intelligent man is everything you’re not. And just a word to the obviously unwise: When you act like a fucking moron, talk like a fucking moron, and lie like a fucking moron, it’s obvious that you’re a fucking moron. That would be the opposite of “an intelligent man” – but you apparently don’t have the mental capacity to know the difference between the two.

Great post Nance, as always. I love your insight and your elegant use of language.

Anyone that repeatedly claims to be intelligent is an insecure idiot. If one has to incessantly brag about almost anything, they are devoid of what they are bragging about. And they know it.

Then I’d like for Sara Huckleberry to read it aloud with dramatic interpretation. And then , just for grins and giggles, I’d like the official WH photographer to capture the images of him as the steam blew out of his ears and the pile of straw on his head stood straight up! It would likely be the best day many of us have had since Election Day, last November.
