Trump's America: Frederica Wilson not in Washington due to threats: report

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) reportedly did not return to Washington this week due to threats she's received since her comments about President Trump's call to the widow of a fallen soldier.

“She’s home,” Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) told the Miami Herald.

“I have not spoken with her about it, but I’ve heard that she’s received substantial death threats and I think she is doing everything she can to ratchet down and let some of us, including me, take over.”

The last time Wilson voted was on Oct. 12.

A source told the newspaper that "nothing else would keep her from voting," adding that there are investigations into the threats she has faced.

Wilson last week said she overheard Trump's conversation with the widow of a fallen U.S. soldier. She claimed Trump told the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson that her husband knew what he signed up for.

We all have to make our own decision on how we would act but I would like to think I would not allow these assholes to dictate where I go and if I go to Congress or not.
It’s not me though and I hope Rep Wilson stays safe and returns to Congress to keep putting the screws to that Asshole in Chief.

I tried to temper my comments because I am very aware it’s not me and I have no ability to actually be in her position but I still hate the idea of giving any ground to these racist assholes but I do understand the reasoning.

2. It's about time for a crackdown on death threats to lawmakers.

Some well-publicized arrests and prosecutions might reduce the number of people making such threats, I think.

Threats to lawmakers that are made to intimidate them from doing their jobs should be taken very seriously by law enforcement people who are charged with protecting those lawmakers, and efforts ramped up to put a stop to them.

Congressional Democrats celebrated Rep. Frederica Wilson on Wednesday by wearing stickers adorned with a red cowboy hat and posing for a group picture on the steps of the Capitol.

.........Hastings said she expects Wilson to return next week.

One racist threat against Wilson that surfaced on Facebook by a Chicago area man is being investigated by police.

“Need ten good men to help carry out a lynching,” the post read. “Must have own horse and saddle. Rope will be provided. This congresswomen [sic] is a disgusting pig. Someone should take their boot to her face.”

The source close to Wilson said that there are “some” ongoing investigations into threats on the congresswoman................................

Police are investigating allegations that a Des Plaines man threatened to lynch U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson in a racist Facebook post.

But Tom Keevers, 54, says an anonymous “meme-maker” put words in his mouth and that he and his family are now getting death threats.

Screen grabs of a post purportedly made on Keevers’ Facebook page went viral over the weekend after they were shared nearly 4,000 times on Twitter. The alleged post is the subject of a Des Plaines police investigation, Cmdr. Chris Mierzwa said.

The alleged post, which appears to have been captured in an iPhone screen grab, targets Wilson, who has been involved in a high-profile fight with the White House since she gave a deeply unflattering account of a phone call President Donald Trump made to Myeshia Johnson, the widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson, who was killed in an ambush in Niger.......................................................
