patriarchy and inequality depends on their collaboration. We've seen it with Julian Assange, Woody Allen, and countless rapists. Some of the most notorious misogynists left for JPR, where their misogyny goes unchallenged. I recall receiving one lecture after another in which they proclaimed any issue concerning women as less than "real." Only when attacks on reproductive rights were made, they didn't give a shit about that either.

One of the most disgusting comments I read said that Woody Allen was more oppressed by his daughter's allegations that she ever was, EVEN IF he molested her. That defense of child rape is one of the evilest things I have ever seen.

This has been going on for longer than his health decline. I held the opinion that he might be going though some age related cognitive/impulse control issues, but now I'm thinking it is just shameful, inappropriate behavior. I'm realizing it has nothing to do with that. He is just an inappropriate jerk. He might think it's a joke. It most definitely is not.

He's 93, now, and either he has apologized, or someone apologized for him. But, damn.

The version I heard was that she was black (that's in line with the Condelessa Rice Freudian slip of referring to W as her husband).

That story was squashed just as the W Bush awol story was so it's highly likely that stories of the younger HW the sexual abuser were also made to disappear.

7. Mens Rea
Thu Oct 26, 2017, 04:28 PM
Oct 2017

IANAL. Pay the $2.

Mens rea (/ˈmɛnz ˈriːə/; Law Latin for "guilty mind" ) is the mental element of 1) intention to commit a crime or 2) knowledge that one's action or lack of action would cause a crime to be committed. It is a necessary element of many crimes.

The standard common law test of criminal liability is expressed in the Latin phrase actus reus non facit reum nisi mens sit rea, i.e. "the act is not culpable unless the mind is guilty". In jurisdictions with due process, there must be both actus reus ("guilty act" ) and mens rea for a defendant to be guilty of a crime (see concurrence). As a general rule, someone who acted without mental fault is not liable in criminal law. Exceptions are known as strict liability crimes.

In civil law, it is usually not necessary to prove a subjective mental element to establish liability for breach of contract or tort, for example. But if a tort is intentionally committed or a contract is intentionally breached, such intent may increase the scope of liability and the damages payable to the plaintiff.

In some jurisdictions, the terms mens rea and actus reus have been replaced by alternative terminology. In Australia, mens rea is now called "fault elements" or "mental elements" and actus reus is now called "physical elements" or "external elements". The point of the changes was to replace Latin with plain English.

It makes nothing “okay” at all for the victim but it’s a reason as opposed to an excuse. Elderly men can literally lose the ability to make the cognitive connection between thought, intent, act and consequence. As appalling as it is for the victim being angry at the person as a way to shame or get them to change is pointless. They might well have no memory of it.

Bush, now, might have loosened abilities but he committed a calculated act repeatedly and it was allowed and condoned by others. The whole thing stinks.
