He wasn't always so circumspect about his reputation for womanizing. Ten years ago, at the 1988 Republican Convention, Hartford Courant associate editor David Fink struck up a conversation with George W. "When you're not talking politics," Fink asked the vice president's son, "what do you and [your father] talk about?"
P@$$%," George W. replied.
Had he simply answered - women - it would not have been as telling about his views - as well as the views of his father - on women.
But his reply (P@$$%) placed a negative value on women - a premium on what was between the legs of women and not what was between their ears. Not as a person - but as a body part.
And this is what the son bragged about - what he talks about with his father.

So, no. I don't buy that Poppy Bush is old, senile, and acting out. This isn't new behavior and even if it was - sexual assault is sexual assault regardless of whether or not someone is suffering from senility or dementia. (or whatever)
Just because the guilty party might suffer from diminished capacity doesn't mean the victim of sexual assault is any less a victim.
And touching anyone on the bottom without permission is sexual assault. Regardless of the intent of the person doing the touching.
Just because someone thinks it is a joke or all in good fun doesn't excuse their behavior and claiming you didn't know it was wrong or didn't realize it caused harm doesn't either.
And contrary to some excuses I've read - the rules have always been the same - it was always wrong to touch women without permission. Always. Even back in the day - and even before then. The only thing that has changed is women have a voice now they didn't once have. We still have a long way to go but keeping your hands to yourself - has always - ALWAYS - been the rule. Some men simply didn't care and still don't.
So...in conclusion.
Keep your fucking hands to yourself - and if you can't or are unable to? Stay the fuck home and away from other people.
Thank you.

Because I know that you can't answer these questions, they are only rhetorical. But it does make you wonder. If it was my husband's arm, I'd break it.

(90,795 posts)It's wrong to ignore the behavior or pretend that it is the responsibility of women to not get too close. It's not as if they were warning women ahead of time. How were women supposed to know not to get too close to GHW Bush?

(1,387 posts)This paragraph encapsulates my thinking :
"Just because the guilty party might suffer from diminished capacity doesn't mean the victim of sexual assault is any less a victim."
Plus, I believe it's more merciful to the perpetrator to speak out.
That being said , it seems the great patrician statesman is just another creep.

(90,795 posts)I agree. It's better to speak out than to pretend it isn't happening. That doesn't help anyone and only allows the harmful behavior to continue.
