Dont move monument to Veterans Park, council says (FL)

MANATEE COUNTY — A Confederate monument removed this summer from the Manatee County courthouse grounds should not be relocated to Veterans Monument Park, the Manatee County Veterans Council says ...

Hunsinger noted that "the original intent for Veterans Park," which is on a site donated by the hospital, was to honor "only veterans serving in the Uniformed Services of the United States of America" and "only those individuals from Manatee County would have their names memorialized on the walls, statues or memorials contained within Veterans Park" ...

The Veterans Council .. supports the notion of relocating the 8.5-ton monument to the state’s Gamble Plantation Historic Park in Ellenton.

The county has not approached the Florida Park Service as to whether it would accept the monument ...
