The drift of it seems to be Mueller should resign because of the dossier hoopla.
I searched on D.U. and couldn't seem to find an o.p. concerning this, so forgive me if this has already been discussed.
It seems that someone is getting very, very nervous about where this investigation is going.
"Someone Is Really Worried About the Trump/Russia Investigation"
"What is also important to notice is Trumps reaction to the PR stunt Nunes pulled last week. Why did he all of the sudden jump to the question of who paid for the dossier, something that hasnt been discussed that much because all that was missing were the individual names? Did he know this story was coming shortly? Has this roll-out of events been planned? Thats sure how it looks.
Its also important to note that, in that tweet above, Trump attacked the FBI. With that, he might have signaled whats next. Take a look at what Byron York wrote about that today.
But knowing that the Clinton campaign, the DNC, and Perkins Coie supported the dossier is not the end of the story. The most important next step is the FBI.
Sometime in October 2016 that is, at the height of the presidential campaign Christopher Steele, the foreign agent hired by Fusion GPS to compile the Trump dossier, approached the FBI with information he had gleaned during the project. According to a February report in the Washington Post, Steele reached an agreement with the FBI a few weeks before the election for the bureau to pay him to continue his work.
It was an astonishing turn: the nations top federal law enforcement agency agreeing to fund an ongoing opposition research project being conducted by one of the candidates in the midst of a presidential election. The idea that the FBI and associates of the Clinton campaign would pay Mr. Steele to investigate the Republican nominee for president in the run-up to the election raises further questions about the FBIs independence from politics, as well as the Obama administrations use of law enforcement and intelligence agencies for political ends, wrote Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.
In the end, according to reports, the FBI did not pay Steele. But the dossier did not go away. Indeed, in January 2017, Comey briefed President-elect Trump (and President Obama) on the dossiers contents.
Muellers team has been pretty disciplined, so were not getting the kind of leaks about the investigation that were happening previously. What we do know is that his investigators not only interviewed Michael Steele recently, theyve also questioned current and former members of the White House staff and subpoenaed records. That might be giving the Trump administration some clues about where all of this is headed. Whether or not thats the case, its clear that someone is pretty nervous and therefore, were witnessing a massive attempt to lie, distract and blame."

At first I had a WTF moment when I saw that the Journal had betrayed journalistic principle, but then I remembered....

Juliette Kayyem was the Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs in the Department of Homeland Security. She is currently a national security analyst for CNN, the Belfer Lecturer in International Security at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, a member of Secretary Jeh Johnsons Homeland Security Advisory Council, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Pacific Council on International Policy.
In short: she knows her stuff and isnt one to give in to hyperbole. Keep in mind that her explosive quotes are not based on insider knowledge of the investigation into Russias interference, but nonetheless, they are still informed positions based on her familiarity with national security matters.
Kayyem told Boston Public Radio that I think it is safe to say that before Thanksgiving
somethings going to drop with Mueller. The pace is too much right now. Every 12 hours were now dealing with a piece of this story at a pace we havent seen.
She also said that this is so close to the Oval Office now, if not in the Oval Office, that all of this [dossier news] to me is just background noise to what Mueller is going to deliver. This is more than an obstruction charge. There is something big underlying the obstruction.
Lets hope shes right. We need to rid ourselves of this orange demon as soon as possible.

(19,605 posts)That is what most of the headlines seemed to indicate.
Call me paranoid, but it also seems someone is using a tool to make sure their shit gets to the top of the results.
I hope I'm wrong.
