WaPo: Home builders association try to smash GOP tax bill
The National Association of Home Builders know how to demolish things, and on Saturday they decided to take on a new project the House Republican tax bill.
Thats because one day before, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Tex.) informed NAHB that he would not be including a homeownership tax credit as part of the new tax legislation, which will be released on Wednesday.
NAHBs chief executive, Jerry Howard, had spent months working on this new tax provision with Bradys aides, but House leaders wouldnt allow its inclusion, Howard was told. The next day, Howard and other NAHB officials gathered on a conference call and debated what to do. They agreed unanimously kill the bill.
We have members in every district, Howard said. We are not a partisan organization. We will work to defeat it with our grassroots.
