One person (didn't get the name) laid out a really sad assessment of the current state of politics. He said that all of this shit about collusion, Russia, conspiracy can come out - but as long as trump keeps his base, nothing will happen to him (I assume this means his complicit repubs in congress - it was stated on the program how shocking it is that with all of the Russia stuff coming out, they all just remain mute).
They spoke a bit about terminology - collusion vs conspiracy - and thought that as more comes out, the more useful word to use is conspiracy.
What is extremely disturbing is that our country is apparently using the Facebook "Like" model - as long as his base continues to like him, trump (according to those on the show) will come through unscathed.
What a depressing situation. He's done it - turned the country into his own personal reality show, supported by the adoration ( = ignorance) of his "fans".

(56,828 posts)He was at 73% approval among Republicans last week in one poll. I checked the same poll for the approval ratings of W throughout his presidency, and he was over 80% for years among Republicans - usually high 80s or 90s - it wasn't until after Katrina in late summer 2005 that Bush dropped below 80% approval among Republicans. So, 3+ years of the Iraq quagmire and W was still over 80% with the GOP.

(615 posts)I fined the "As long as his base continues to like him he will be unscathed stupid. Yes there is a court of public opinion. But there is still the court of law. If he broke the law he broke the law. It isn't like the verdict is going to be "Guilty.... but people like him so forget about it"
