Female Marvel Comics editor harassed online for milkshake selfie

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/books/news/female-marvel-comics-editor-harassed-online-milkshake-selfie/

Heather Antos, an editor for Marvel Comics, has been deluged with abuse online after posting an image of herself drinking milkshakes with six female Marvel employees, with a caption reading "It's the Marvel milkshake crew! #FabulousFlo" – the latter referencing the recent death of the legendary female Marvel publisher Flo Steinberg.

For the crime of consuming cold beverages while being female, Antos was then attacked across social media and via email and her Twitter direct messages by angry Marvel fans, who used the image as an opportunity to rant about "Social Justice Warriors", "fake geek girls" and feminism.

Antos condemned the abuse the following day, writing that "the internet is an awful, horrible, and disgusting place." She added, "Woke up today to a slew of more garbage tweets and DMs. For being a woman. In comics. Who posted a selfie of her friends getting milkshakes."

But the incident has once again ignited a firestorm of discussion about the prevalence of abusive responses to both gender and racial diversity in the comic book world, and the recent increase in female staffers.

Chelsea Cain, the writer behind the female superhero comic book Mockingbird, left Twitter in October 2016 following months of harassment, while Zainab Akhtar, a British-Muslim writer, closed her Eisner Award-winning comic book journalism site Comics & Cola last year after being deluged with racist, misogynistic abuse via email and social media.

Her milkshake brings all the trolls to the yard. My favorite comment was the one calling these women "creepy" with no life experience.

A lot of people across various publishers really stood up online and gave hell about it, as did a lot of fans.

The squeaky wheels are the loudest and we're realizing there are more of them than we realized. But they've always been a part of it. Every fandom has a Trump base level in it.

I don't know how anybody looks at that picture and starts railing against feminists and SJWs. There is simply no connection to be made.

Like another poster said, these are idiot fanboys who can't deal with young women working for a comic book company.

I see that picture and i see young women having fun as friends. I'm confused along with you.

What do these bad-haircut-having lamers interpret this as? "There Will Be Blood" or something?

Ask every artist to include a three-panel sequence of the book’s hero killing and eating Pepe the Frog. The artist who created Pepe hates what the alt right has done with Pepe, so he’d be onboard with it.

Marvel has had women in leadership right from their beginning, which is why these ladies referenced the late Flo Steinberg who has been producing comics since the 1960's.

basement. I imagine the Cheeto dust flying as these stained-shirt neckbeards angrily slam down on their keyboards about how teh Feminazis are coming to turn their favorite comic book hero into an “effeminate sissy-boy.” This is all all while having tabs open to pickup artist and MRA websites where their pasty virgin bretheren comfort each other on how the evil wimminz never give nice guys like them attention.

it's about the idiotic and completely false stereotype some assholes have of who "should" be writing their comic books. There are "hidden figures" in lots of industries that are assumed to be made up of Whitey McStraightMales that are actually women, minorities, gays, etc.

Most right wing sci fi geeks still can't handle the fact that the Matrix movies were produced by two trans women for example. Or that one of the early lead researchers in stealth bomber technology was a brown person. Or how many black women were involved in NASA space flights (the movie Hidden Figures) and many more.

These facts shatter the myth that human civilization was developed through the brilliant ingenuity of only one type of human.

So it shocks these losers to find out their favorite comic books were written by women.

Marvel's sales have been declining for years. The alt-right and neckbeard contigent blame that on Marvel's outreach to female and minority readers with characters like the Muslim Ms. Marvel, the female Thor, the African-American Captain Americas and Iron Mans, Black Panther, et al. Critics love the books, but the comic book gatekeepers are convinced this is causing the decline of comics, when in reality it has to do with how the publishers sell their comics to shops.

Drinking milkshakes and having a great time.

If you find ANYTHING wrong with that you've got serious problems, it's the dumpf effect, they think they have a champion leader.

But lemmings follow their leaders right off a cliff, to bad it won't happen, but at least we can identify more of them now.
