I had someone tag me with the 'SJW' label, the other day, and being someone who is acronym challenged, I had to look it up. Then I became confused. Fighting for social justice seems to be a fine and noble activity, IMHO. Am I missing something?

Its asshole alt-right speak. They have their own lexicon. "Snowflake", "SJW", "Safe space", "White knight". etc. Anyone who uses such terms needs a good punch to the throat honestly.

I literally had, what I assume a person over the age of ten, tell me "YOU CAN'T SAY THAT TO ME! LIBERALS ARE THE SNOWFLAKES!!!" online.

Ditto for Clinic-blocking RTLers, 2nd Am. Absolutists, etc. They all want social justice for THEMSELVES.
The right belittles anything that makes them experience pangs of guilt.

(11,738 posts)Right wingers argue that the culture has become too sensitive and that everyone always has hurt feelings so that no one can have a conversation anymore without offending someone. They see people who try to stand up for showing respect and treating others with dignity as impeding their ability to speak their minds. In truth, it is. People who promote speaking to others with respect and dignity are by nature, telling people who do not, to stop, think, and reframe their approach to others.
Jerks just want to be jerks, so instead of changing their own approach, the attack those who call them out as taking away their liberty to be jerks.

(37,748 posts)Yeah... I've seen it used a few times on DU as well.
But let's be honest, the users are dullards, and far too timid to admit to its usage in the here and now. Which illustrates the true lack of courage of their convictions.

(50,254 posts)doesn't actually care about any of the issues that person is speaking out(or calling the people who use the term out ABOUT), but only says what they say as a form of attention-getting behavior.
They are calling others SJWs to make it sound like the people being called that are not only insincere, but pathetic.
In other words, because the people who call others "SJW"s don't feel any empathy, they can't accept that anyone else would feel it.
-or, as a collolary, because any increase in empath would defeat the trolls, they are terrified that there might be more people who care about others than who don't, and see it as a survival mechanism to try to shame and intimidate everyone else out of any displays of empathy.
As these guys see it, if they don't care, it's either not possible that others could-or it's VERY possible and has to be stopped at all cost.

(2,841 posts)It used to be a strictly right-wing insult from the cesspool of 4chan towards tumblr profiles focused on social justice and activism. Now its used in many different ways by different kinds of people. I know on places like instagram, SJW is used towards people overacting towards something vaguely politically incorrect or towards someone pretending to be "woke".
Of course its a term still used by alt-righters that think treating people with respect is a SJW thing. I wouldnt take it seriously tbh.
