I used to pick them as casual snacks on the central coast of California while hiking, along with the odd gooseberry and wild blackberry.
BTW, it's whortleberry, not whoretleberry, just to clarify. Also, they are not related to the common dingleberry, Donald Trump's favorite fruit, either.
