People in this party need to be able to say, without being called out and shouted down, things like "we need you, elected Democratic politicians to remember history and not repeat it". Those who do that do so out of positive intent and love for the party and the people of the party.
This is the Democratic Party. To fulfill that name, we need INTERNAL democracy and that includes open internal debate.
To ensure open debate, people of good will need to be able to offer ideas and raise legitimate fears without having their motives and party loyalties impugned
Discussing what our leaders might do is never an insult to those leaders. Pointing out that, if Trump does start a war, these people will be under crushing pressure to bow to war fever, and that we will all need to apply equal pressure against giving in to any war fever is simply to state what we all know-that it will be exceedingly difficult to prevent Trump from getting us into a war if he wishes to, and there will be little hope for the future if he isn't stopped from such a war.
Our leaders in this party WANT to hear what we have to say. It doesn't offend them for respectful discussion to occur, and it doesn't weaken them for people to constructively and respectfully discuss issues.

I must respond that there is a huge difference between remembering history and learning from that memory.
Thank you again for your call for respectful and, one hopes, constructive dialogue.

(51,591 posts)last month. We never learn from our mistakes therefore history will always repeat itself. Useless wars based on greed and religion fueled by lots of testosterone separates man from animals and has for thousands of years. Oh well, man is destroying life on Earth through creating global warming and Climate Change faster than any war(s) would ever be able to accomplish.

In most situations, that's a valid thing.
However, we can make a blanket statement that there couldn't be a good case for supporting any war Trump got us into. We know what the guy is about and we know he is incapable of positive intent.

And frankly, there is no international dispute at the moment that could possibly be solved through U.S. or "Coalition" military intervention.
