In a stunning show of transparency, FoxNews will embrace fact and change its name to FoxPutin! (Caveat: While multiple sources confirm the collaboration, it is unclear whether the name will be FoxPutin! or PutinFox!)
The sad truth is that there was nothing masterful about Russia's manipulation of the US public during the 2016 election cycle. Russia simply adopted and amplified the methods employed by FoxNews, Limbaugh, Ted Cruz, Breitbart and the rest of their ilk: Embrace racism, sexism, populism . . . . amplify, inflame, rinse, repeat.
Huffington Post has a story which shows some of Russia's Facebook ads: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/russian-facebook-ads-examples-election_us_59fa16d1e4b01b474047d7a5?ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009 If the article hadn't made clear that the ads were from Russia, I would have bet good money that at least half of them were from FoxNews.
Frankly, I'm more concerned about he integrity of our "ballot boxes" and the erosion of the Voting Rights Act, but it will be difficult, if not impossible, to put those fires out without addressing the fact that Fox, Trump and many-a red state are willing to sell America out to Russia if the trade-off is a renewal of Jim Crow.

(574 posts)Shy of regulating speech, I see no reason that Fox and Putin wouldn't be preparing to use the exact same methods for the 2018 elections.

(574 posts)Remove any facts which challenge or disprove our biases, insert allusions where supporting facts are illusive, and give it to me on a spoon. Thus shall we be "informed."

Just think if that political party used those billions$$$$$$$$ for "Good" like new schools & new hospitals...
Republican Party would/could be popular with regular Americans, instead of hated, feared & not trusted
