(36,745 posts)He was re-elected in November 1972 in a landslide. Watergate picked up steam in 1973 and 1974.
Fun fact, Pierre Trudeau normalized relations with China in 1970, upstaging Nixon. Nixon never forgave him for it. Trudeau was a great PM and light years beyond Tricky Dick in integrity.

(67,782 posts)...is that when he got back from a long trip he suffered from phlebitis, which he used as an excuse to evade the public for a while.
Then again, it was 45 years ago so things are fuzzy.

I think Brezhnev came to DC, but I could be mistaken.
