Im losing the will

I just can’t. Idiocracy is the zombie apocalypse. The human race will die out because too many people just don’t give a shit and don’t care about anyone but themselves.

The “I got mine, screw you” mentality.

Well. Only until something happens to THEM. Then they want what we here have all been fighting against them for!

Fucking idiots.

for example, Alex Jones and the like.

I know the feeling, but never lose hope, there are millions and millions of very good people in the world.

this week will be especially tough with the one year anniversary of our descent into hell.

Hopefully, you can scope things down to the beauty and love in your own little world. Family, pets, nature, friends, good food and drink. Even a friendly interaction with a stranger. To know that there is compassion, empathy, and grace in the world. The only things saving my sanity. Which is hanging on by a thread.

We all have to be heroic warriors in the struggle against fear, hatred, and stupidity. Things could be a lot worse. We aren't chained in a slave ship, or living in the Warsaw ghetto, or running up a Gettysburg hill with Pickets charge. Try taking a break and recharging your batteries. Take a walk outside, or just sit down and give yourself a little pep talk. Don't get spiritually exhausted thinking about how stupid some people are. That leads to depression, indifference, and acceptance of what we here at DU all know is neurotic and crazy.

The stupid people, the stupid ones, who vote against their best interests are not happy people. That fact gives me great sadness, but it doesn't cause me to lose my focus on electing Dems. We all need to focus on just 2 things: a) blocking hurtful GOP legislation, and b) electing Dems. Hang in there. Enthusiastic perseverance is a virtue.

Fortunately, I have a very sweet husband who reminds me to "disengage" from the craziness of the world when I become discouraged and depressed.

9. You are not your thoughts and feelings
Mon Nov 6, 2017, 01:14 PM
Nov 2017

You have thoughts and feeling, but you are not them. Thoughts and feelings are impermanent experiences that come and go. They are not real. They have no mass and can't be weighed on a scale. They just seem real. When negative thoughts and feelings arise, just label them as "just thinking." I'm a Buddhist, and long ago understood the truth of suffering. We are all of us suffering, especially the most fearful, hateful, and stupid people. The more they suffer, the more they act out and inflict suffering on others. The more sensitive and compassionate you are, the more you experience suffering for all those stupid clueless people out there, who simply don't know how to be truly happy. So we all need to practice some stoic heroism, calm down, and not let our suffering for ourselves and others drag us down.

6. We do need
Mon Nov 6, 2017, 12:35 PM
Nov 2017

to take mental breaks from this. If you don't take a break, you will break down. It's simple psych 101. This is an assault to our senses.
I need week long breaks at times.

I actually don't think of it as a marathon. I think of it as a tag team effort. This is how an authoritarian govt breaks people down over time. If you don't take a time out - whether it's part of the day, or week, it doesn't help you, or help the cause long term.

With that said, I completely understand. We will all get through this.

10. I practice meditation every day.
Mon Nov 6, 2017, 01:23 PM

Sometimes several times a day. And every day, I recite he following Buddhist meditation, called the Four Immeasurables of love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. It helps clear my mind of useless and unhelpful junk and sets my point of view correctly.

May all sentient beings be free of suffering
and free of the causes and conditions of suffering.

May all sentient beings be happy
and have the causes and conditions of happiness.

May all sentient beings know the joy
of appreciating the success, happiness, and well-being of others.

May all sentient beings rest peacefully in the equanimity
of no more craving, attachment, or aversion.

I’ve always been fascinated by Buddhism. I should look into it. I use to practice Qi Gong, and it does help a lot. Having to find some discipline these days to get back into it and meditation. A bad back is keeping me off my treadmill, and you have to burn all that adrenaline from this stress off in some way.

Panel 1--I've concluded that to be alive is to suffer.
2--And that the elimination of that suffering is the key to
achieving inner peace.
3--Thus beer.
4--I'm not sure if I'm a philosopher or a drunk.

I'm a wannabe Buddhist.

There is lots of literature that has been translated into English. I always tell beginners with curiosity about to start by reading. Start with learning about the 4 Noble Truths, the first of which is the truth of suffering.

Many of them are about Zen.
I consider Buddhism to be more a philosophy than a religion.
First started reading about it in the late 60's.
I'm just lazy and I like it.
