Maybe this is obvious to everyone, but here goes...
The king wants to consolidate power. Going after all the princes sort of makes sense, but it was taken a bit too far. After all, two are now dead. The round up of all the princes and these deaths leads me to believe this king does not shy away from using force. Now, we also know that Dotard made a multi-billion dollar arms deal with the king. Why? Ok, this is where I might get into conspiracy theory territory, but bear with me. Consolidation of power for Saudi means consolidation of power in the middle east. Saudi wants to be THE middle east power (this is not unheard of; Arab countries have been vying for top position in the middle east for decades). Dotard uses Kushner to align himself with the king, maybe promising backing, maybe promising more arms deals down the road. They take the arms deal with Dotard, and in exchange start threatening war with Yemen and Iran. Yes, there was a missile involved, so there is an excuse for a call to war. But it is very convenient that Dotard suffered a debacle early on in Yemen and that he detests the Iran nuclear deal Obama made. I am suggesting that whatever deal Dotard/Kushner has made with Saudi includes using them to (at least) threaten these two countries that have been a thorn in Dotard's side.

(3,613 posts)Obviously they expect to be executed. Saudis are pro death penalty. The crime is probably supporting terrorism.

(17,984 posts)you have to ask why now and how Dotard is mixed up in it. Remember, this was all happening last week WHILE Kushner was making trips over there. And then the war speech?
Hey, I thought of the terrorism complaint. Maybe they were trying to eliminate their ties to Wahhabism once and for all? But I keep coming back to our involvement in Yemen early this year, the Iran deal, and Kushner.

I am frankly baffled that the U.S. allies of Saudi Arabia and Israel are not doing more to stop the Iran-Russian take over of the Middle East. The Saudis and the Israelis have some very powerful friends in this country. Maybe they are hoping that Mueller will take out the trash and they won't have to show their hands.
I think China will determine the winner of the latest round of Middle East Three Dimensional Chess. What does China want more? A steady supply of Russian oil or an affluent U.S. middle class able to purchase its exports?

(17,984 posts)Consider the three pillars of middle east policy. It seems to me when I was studying this in poli-sci class, the neo-cons were particularly aggressive, and this strikes me as carryover. The closest Arab ally we have is Saudi. I will admit that I am still considering the Saudi end game, but I completely understand why Dotard would align with the new king.

(86 posts)For all we know, he could be in talks for the Saudis to let Russia and China replace the Petrodollar with their currencies. China and Russia have been pushing that idea for like 10 years.
