(59,503 posts)just be a reaction to Trump announcing he is pulling out ... even though as Kerry and others pointed out, he can't pull out until November 2020 - after the election. Given Trump's about face on NK today, you wonder if he might suddenly declare he is going to BOTH Bonn and Paris, because the US is not yet out!
Why do I have an imagine in my mind of telling a 2 year old not to do exactly what I wanted her to do?
It also seems that the French summit as defined, is similar to all the business and NGO reachout that was done by the Obama administration. I suspect that Macron might add insult to injury by inviting the very capable John Kerry and Al Gore, who are still both working on these very things. (If you are interested in hearing what these two are upto on this - and other issues -- I heartily recommend you listen to their conversation - https://news.yale.edu/2017/10/09/watch-livestream-vice-president-al-gore-kerry-conversation ) (Including Gore putting his hands into a prayer position referring to the November 2020 elections!

(82,849 posts)Why would you invite a head of state from a non-participating country, even such a powerful country as the United States?

(13,869 posts)Don't understand some earlier comments. He has withdrawn the US so why would he be invited? I don't expect to get invited to the Republican convention next time either.

We know there's more than "ugly America". Just make sure to convince all sane Americans to GOTV next time, and every time after the next time.
