It really is overwhelming but there is hope

The state of our country/world as of today:

Mass shootings roll unabated

State governments, nationwide, are being rocked by sexual harassment and corruption scandals

Our current federal government is under the control/influence of a hostile foreign power and is deeply corrupt and dysfunctional

The “Paradise Papers” expose the reality of just how corrupt and one-sided the world financial systems are in favor of the rich and powerful

The top 2% of the world really are screwing the bottom 98%. The current Russian corruption investigation and the Paradise Papers leave little doubt of this reality

Corporations, movie and TV industry is being rocked to its core with sexual harassment, rape and pedo sex trafficking revelations

The “Fat Leonard” corruption scandal is the biggest corruption scandal in military history.
The corruption could call into question our trust in our military’s loyalty and ability to do their job.

We are in serious trouble. The curtain is being pulled back and these issues, who we thought we were and who we really are, cannot be ignored anymore.

We cannot continue to address women’s rights, the rights of people of color, the rights of the LGBTQ to be bartered and compromised as if they are not human beings but bargaining chips. It is NOT identity politics, this is about human beings and BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS. Until we acknowledge this fact, we will never be able to address who we are as a people.

We are at a turning point in human history, what we do and how we address it, will determine who we are as a society and who we are as human beings. We cannot keep pretending it isn’t happening. What we do now is up to us. We are the hope for a better future, as Democrats and as citizens. I know the hope is buried in all this but that also is the reality we live in. To many of us let our current situation come about by waiting for someone else to fix it or pinning our hopes on candidate “X” or famous person “X”. The cavalry isn’t coming to save the day. We are the cavalry.

The hope is us as Democrats and as citizens. I’ll modify the OP a little to make it more clear.
