"A few other words of caution: sealed indictments are not uncommon and the U.S. attorney's office in DC does many complex cases. Mueller is not the only active prosecutor working in that courthouse. I'm not saying nothing is cooking, but don't read too much into docket numbers."

(25,857 posts)the phrase "sealed indictments" makes me uneasy.
Might they stay sealed forever? Are indictments necessarily the precursor to arrest?
I keep on flashing back to "unindicted co-conspirator" in Watergate. Those of you who do not know what that refers to, look it up. You'll learn a lot.
Which leads to: I'm concerned that this President may wind up as an "unindicted co-conspirator" and likewise escape all punishment.

(51,129 posts)Typically, they are sealed so the indicted person is not aware of their impending arrest and/or because knowledge of the indictment may interfere with pursuit of justice. That can mean the ability to bring charges against others being investigated. If you find out your fellow criminals are about to be arrested, you might run, go quiet, stop talking on the phone, quit conspiring via e-mail, etc. prosecutors try not to make their own work more difficult by keeping a lid on a lot of information.

(25,857 posts)I fear that these indictments may prove meaningless unless unsealed and delivered.
But again, I know that I know very little about these things.

(51,129 posts)It can mean that even more indictments are coming, and it certainly means that more people are subject to arrest now.
Indictments are people charged with crimes.

(25,857 posts)I remember "Fitzmas" all too well. Our hopes were high, then nothing.
I do hope I'm wrong, but I, who am normally an incorrigible optimist, am feeling very pessimistic right now.
