General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI hear a lot about the white male voter. Well...
Well I am far more concerned about the women voters and how they never seem to be mentioned, it is almost like we are invisible. Women of all colors for years have been discriminated against. I see no where that a 'poor' white man being paid less than a woman or had to pay more for insurance because of their sex. Never heard them to have forced ultrasounds before having an abortion...oh that's right, you can't get pregnant and had nothing to do with the pregnancy after ejaculating. We are a minority which many men wish us to remain. They are just not that into us and wish us to remain silent. We birthed you and had to push a refrigerator out of our vaginas to bring you into this world. We are strong stock and will run circles around you.
Women, especially black women are the true Democratic base. Do NOT ignore them. This holds true to what happened in VA/ NJ and across the country. Women, more than ever before are fighting back and saying NO.
Since tRump was elected they woke the next morning and inundated Emily's List and Center for Women, volunteering to be trained and serve. They are running by the thousands and they are sure as hell winning. Did you notice the diversity in our wins...ABSOLUTLY AMAZING!
Boo Hoo...Tuesday was great BUT...yep, read it on DU 'it was great ...but.' We need to change!!! It is not enough!!! We need new ideas! Actually I think we are doing pretty well, we will never stop evolving however what we have done right got us here. The diversity alone with our elected candidates is huge and that says it all.
The force awakens, join us or stand aside. We are no longer the Little Train that said I think I can, WE are the Acela. Full speed ahead and leave the driving to us. You boys had your chance, you pretty much fucked it up. Our time now. Look out boys, we are coming.

(34,108 posts)a mighty momentum. We have had it before but it was always pushed down. I turned on CNN this afternoon and actually noticed that the host was female as were all her guests and they were not taking about the sexual harassment news. They were talking about the Russia issues. I know I have seen this for a while now and thought it was good but today it stuck me, they had power. They always did but now I think it is different. I never thought I would see these things in my lifetime.
I just have that feeling that now we are immovable. So it is onward and upward. Just watch us. There is nothing we can't do and do well.

(58,649 posts)Fact is, the party is changing. It may not be moving in a direction that some people like, but it is definitely changing.
And yes, in large part it started in earnest on Jan 21, 2017, when women across the country woke up to their own power and marched in the streets. They were joined by their husbands, brothers, uncles, and male friends, but it was a Woman's March in its inception and execution.
Following that, women across the country started investigating how to run for office, how to support others in that endeavor, or maybe just meeting together to show each other support. Networks are being pieced together, power blocs are being formed and Democrats across the country are getting together, including in many places where people didn't know they had kindred spirits so close to them.
Many of the folks I read here and elsewhere seem to want to specify how the Democratic Party needs to change. Everybody seems to have the answer. The truth is that the real answers need to bubble up from the grass roots. They say that "all politics are local." That's what we saw in Virginia and in New Jersey and elsewhere. We won't be successful if the DNC dictates how local candidates have to frame their campaigns in any but a general sense. I certainly don't care what someone thinks our national slogan for 2020 should be now. That will come with time.
We are in a revolution, already in progress, which is being decided organically from below. That's a good thing. As for 2020, I don't join into any speculative threads about that. I suspect, and rather hope that our candidate for Pres in 2020 is someone we don't suspect now, and maybe don't even know. Yes, the "guard" is changing right before our eyes. We can all vote and publish and work to effect the outcome, but it really isn't clear just yet what the near future will look like.

(65,013 posts). . .aside from your promotion of grass roots, (and i completely agree), is better marketing of ideas. We have let the other side frame the debate for WAY too long and with better ideas, that benefit more people and doing harm to the fewest possible (like taxes on really rich people, so the harm is minimal) we still lose at the polls.
Frank Luntz has made a career helping R's frame the debate. He's dumber than a box of rocks, so if the R's can find someone like that so can we.
The ideas don't need to change. The marketing could sure be improved.

(51,590 posts)population which makes the gender a MAJORITY! We need to keep that thought in our minds as well as the fact that Hillary WON the popular vote (also the MAJORITY). When that is not a "reminder" of the facts but is ingrained and acknowledged then the entire population can begin to act and treat each other respectfully all the time.

You would think that men have no part in a pregnancy. Then again, the God nut Pence is leading the discussion. That tells you all you need to know.

(51,590 posts)I am an artist and very visual and am hyper aware of how everything I see is ALL MEN (usually white) all the time on the news, in business, and government! Others probably do not notice it since it is "the norm". I want it to be a commonplace "norm" to see pictures that are 99% women of all ages, colors, etc. None of us will ever see that in our lifetime (I am being realistic unfortunately).

(8,311 posts)I was working for a company when the two people in question were brought in full time on the same day. One male, the other female. I know for certain that our female boss didn't negotiate salaries -- when me and a guy were brought on after our temping the same week, we both attempted to negotiate and were told take it or leave it. And we were told the same amount.
Yet a promotion was available -- there was an internal opening. The two people hired on the same day both applied. The woman got the job. I know why -- while they were both probably equally skilled with computers, they *weren't* with people, and the guy was often a jackass to customers. The promotion would involve working with our client daily and required excellent people skills.
He filed a sexual discrimination complaint with HR, saying she only got the job because our boss was a woman.
Grrrrrr.

(83,751 posts)The boys club went bye bye? Yes! We kicked ass everywhere, not just VA/NJ. though they were the biggest and best. Here in MA we had several women win mayors seats as well. Walsh D was reelected as Boston Mayor. RB, we swept the boards everywhere.
Amazing that some believe we did okay...but. No buts about it...we kicked Ass! The diversity was amazing and so telling.

(1,148 posts)I'll argue your point that guys just aren't that into us.
I think they're so into us that they're perpetually frustrated by a sense of looming ineptitude--a sense of sadness that a woman doesn't want to sleep with him . And this ineptitude comes to light every time a man is exposed for being a woman-hungry loser (pervert). Domineering and patriarchy is the tried and true remedy of choice society uses to coddle their insecurities. Thus the OUTRAGE when women get together and when women get educated and when women speak up and when women wear pants and when women run for president and when women say no, go carry your own kid.
Poor guys. Get over us. We have better ideas, and we don't need nor want your warmongering sex sadness bullshit.
Happy Friday
To guys who aren't dicks: thanks for not assuming ownership over other people based on gender.
