If he loses we get the seat. If he wins the GOP has to defend the actions of a thirty two year old man who "seduced" a fourteen year old girl, cajoled her to strip to her underwear as he stripped to his, and then forced her to touch his erect penis.
Defend that, GOP. Every suburban mom and dad will see their daughter. Scratch that. Every mom and dad will see their daughter.

(4,377 posts)It's still twisted as fuck that someone like this could even be considered for the senate, but then again that was true of him before these latest revelations too..

(99,710 posts)The seat or the issue ? If you believe in the value of delayed satisfaction it's the latter.

(4,377 posts)Is that it could provide some kind of cover for other creatures who did or do this stuff. Some kind of normalization or group excuse. I'd desperately hope that it would just be a delay to many of the GOP getting what they sorely deserve, but it would still rankle watching someone like that stepping into the senate. If it helps bring down their whole rotten house of cards though, its definitely worth it.

(6,251 posts)For "Rape; Sexual abuse with violence or threat of violence; Sexual offense (victim under 16)", there is no statute of limitations.

(25,312 posts)SOL are based on the laws at the time of the crime. (In this case 1979)
There are cold cases where a sex offender was ID'd via DNA, but they couldn't be prosecuted because it happened prior to changes in the law.

(4,690 posts)here's one that says there is no statute of limitations in Alabama for criminal charges for sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 16.

This lays out the legal details:

It may be that what Roy Moore did does not fit Alabama's legal definition of sexual abuse. If it does it looks like he could still be charged.

(25,312 posts)Back in 1979 it was 3 years.
It is based on the law at the time the crime was committed, not current law.

(15,543 posts)republicans used to strut around wagging their fingers at everyone, claiming they were somehow morally superior. But it's clear now that they and their values are morally inferior. They are vastly inferior to American values like truth, honesty, fairness, transparency, respect for others, loyalty to the USA, and protection of children and women from sexual predators.

(5,914 posts)We've been screaming about the hypocrisy of these people for decades. They have no respect for life whatsoever and are ONLY driven by greed. They are, and have always been, completely full of shit. They have just lost the need to want to hide it.
