A man fell to his death as he attempted to escape through a fourth-storey window after he was allegedly caught molesting a six-year-old boy.

Edgar Collaguazo, 44, had been locked in a bedroom in his New York flat by the boy's parents, who said they caught him abusing their son at the child's birthday party.

He is thought to have clambered out of the top-floor window and jumped to escape before police arrived.

Video footage obtained by the New York Daily News shows him plunging 40 feet (12 metres) and landing on a metal fence outside the flat in the Jackson Heights neighbourhood in Queens.

Though just to be thorough, if I were investigating I'd be wanting to ensure the landing spot/angle *was* consistent with a voluntary jump or accidental fall trying to escape.

Just because, ya know? Better to verify someone didn't suffer temporary insanity at seeing their child molested.

Though, again, I would at least verify everything was consistent with the parents managing the self-restraint to really just lock him in a room.

That was mighty admirable compared to what might happen to someone I caught molesting a child. I would hope I'd manage not to extract extrajudicial punishment while getting the child safe, but wouldn't feel that guilty about the idea of the molester being hurt and more guilty about the child seeing further violence.
