Not only do we learn that Trumps preferred burger is a Quarter Pounder with cheese, we also find he enjoys it with the rather youthful preferences of extra ketchup and no pickles.
It turns out that the White House kitchen was asked to replicate both the burger and a fried apple pie. Politicos Annie Karni writes that staff attempts couldnt match the satisfaction of the McDonalds originals perhaps because White House chefs work with higher-grade ingredients.
What would a 5 year old if he were President? This!

(13,582 posts)just have McDonalds put a mini one in like they do at schools that are dumb enough to let them in. Asking excellent chefs to do that!

(518 posts)The criticism is that he's tacky for wanting Micky D's when he has access to fine chefs. To which I say, "meh". Not a source of outrage for me.
If he weren't such a bigot, and he had policy positions that actually helped people, I would forgive him all manner of tackiness and vulgarity. So I'm not going to criticize him for things I would brush off if a progressive politician did them. I have only so much outrage to spend here.

You probably have an idiomatic expression to say the same but I don't know it.
I found this article about what Trump ate in the Forbidden City.
I only know "Newsweek" by its name, so I have no idea how much credit to give to it.
Not really convinced after reading the comments, maybe I'm wrong. However, unless the fact that the article points Trump's taste as very common and the standard of the menu far less under what you'd expected for a state banquet, it's not very much interesting.
I'm not sure at all he realized how much he has been honored.

(50,557 posts)The Trump Organization owns several very high-end restaurants. You have to wonder how a man who loves kids' foof got into the fine-dining industry.
Retrograde
(10,136 posts)From the reviews I've read of Trump-branded restaurants they seem to be the former. It's as if someone is convinced that just because a thing costs a lot it must be good. As with most things Trumpian, it's more about conspicuous consumption than about quality or value for the money.

(16,802 posts)Actually the double quarter pounder with cheese.
The product is consistent and you know exactly what you are gonna get. His comfort food.
It is also safe. I have trouble digesting a number of foods and cheese quarter will not leave me scrambling for a bathroom. I spend a fair amount of time on the road and nothing screws up a schedule like turning a restroom into a toxic area. Been there done that
If he would resign I think we would happily make sure he can get as many as he wants for the rest of his life. Hell I would chip in

You should have seen Bill Clinton "before" and "after." While he was in office, he was kind of chunky. After his bypass and diet change, he has been skinny as a rail.
If Trump has a similar cardiac emergency, his version of eating healthier will probably be ditching Big Macs for Quarter Pounders.
GoCubsGo
(32,083 posts)Trump is way beyond "chunky." Also, while Clinton was a bit hefty, he also jogged. He probably still does. The most exertion Trump gets is to hit the button to get the butler to bring him his Diet Coke. And, if the McDonald's doesn't do him in, that stuff will.

(32,083 posts)Unlike Bill Clinton, who changed his ways. This asshole, OTOH, probably believes he's somehow special, and that he's immune to things like cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
DFW
(54,372 posts)Same reason I did--he had a near death emergency that caught his arterial blockage before a major heart attack occurred. After they saved my sorry ass, they called my wife in and told her "the new rules" of my diet, and they have been followed.
Clinton's condition was more drastic than mine. Where I was treated with stents and told how lucky I was (the ambulance was waiting outside to take me to the surgery building for a bypass if the stents failed), Clinton got a quintuple bypass without passing GO or collecting two hundred french fries. He took their advice very seriously. Last time I saw him, he looked almost malnourished, but he's probably a lot healthier than I am at this point. I have the distinct disadvantage of being married to a master gourmet chef, and while she tries to cook fat free, it's hard to stop once she puts her magic on the table.
