I'm curious whether or not Putin speaks sufficient English to communicate with Trump?

He doesn't always have a translator with him and there are plenty of photos of the two of them talking to each other. Has Putin let it be known he speaks English or does he hide that fact? I should think he'd have a basic knowledge of English when he has reportedly worked closely with various English-speaking Americans. He might not let that be known so he can interpret conversations without the participants' knowledge. That would be an asset.

Since Trump' vocabulary isn't very large, Putin wouldn't need to expend much energy to catch up to his level.

I had never heard if he did or didn't speak fluent English. But, after watching the two of then having a deep conversation at a fairly recent dinner, I was curious. It would be hard to keep anything secret with a translator onboard.

In 1975, Putin joined the KGB, and trained at the 401st KGB school in Okhta, Leningrad.[21][35] After training, he worked in the Second Chief Directorate (counter-intelligence), before he was transferred to the First Chief Directorate, where he monitored foreigners and consular officials in Leningrad.[21][36][37] From 1985 to 1990, he served in Dresden, East Germany,[38] using a cover identity as a translator.[39] According to Putin's biographer Masha Gessen, "Putin and his colleagues were reduced mainly to collecting press clippings, thus contributing to the mountains of useless information produced by the KGB."[39] According to Putin's official biography, during the fall of the Berlin Wall that began on 9 November 1989, he burned KGB files to prevent demonstrators from obtaining them.[40]

Understanding what is said to him in English & processing what was said- is one of Trumps problems.

Most European politicians can, they just don't do so in public for political reasons. Emmanuel Macron's willingness to conduct business in English goes against French protocol.

Like most people in positions like his, though, if he has something to say on the record, he speaks Russian and uses an interpreter. That prevents misunderstandings due to language errors.

For most conversations, though, he can speak English well enough to get along OK.

I've heard him speak English. He's not fluent, but is conversationally competent.

In Russian, however, he is quite well-spoken and even erudite.

He's got a little more time to consider what he says before he has to actually open his mouth. I know we're not blessed with that commodity at the moment, but I trust we all do remember what it's like to have a leader who thinks before speaking.
