I have a severe case of political whiplash

I started elementary school in 1961.
We did "duck & cover" drills in anticipation of a Soviet nuke strike. This affects young developing minds.

All through the decades of the cold war, hawk conservatives were the main drivers of the paranoia and weapons build up.

Now look at the "conservative" base of Trump's party.
Look at how they grovel.
Look at how they admire Putin.

I'm not saying we need another extreme cold war but I am saying that the party that brought us paranoia and trillions spent on weapons sure has me reeling from "political whiplash".

Both the House and Senate were controlled by the Democratic Party for most of the Cold War. Weapons systems funding and base locations were largely determined by powerful committee chairmen in Congress.

They would do so to not be seen as "soft on Communism".

The blue spikes mostly happen at the outset of the Dem takeover in political control.

Are these spikes in the MIC budget increases bleed over from the spending policies of the Repugs after they handed over political control ?

But preceding Re-thug military budgets were pretty much written in stone the previous year - there upon came the Dem takeover ?

Like the banking crisis was not Obama's child.... deregulation and gross lack of oversight of the banking industry brought on by bush/Cheney and administrations before them - caused the banking crisis.

The abortion was dumped in Obama's lap, he only inherited it, and then became responsible to marshal the economy to sort that god forsaken mess out. With little to zero help from the Rethugs to put the economy back on it's feet again - often intentionally and purposely hampering him as he endeavored to re-stabilize the domestic and international economic systems before people suffered total crash and total collapse of the entire banking system.

6. The "spikes" are the margin in percentage of seats that the controlling party enjoyed.

They aren't the military budget.

Note that the Republicans only controlled for two years during Truman's administration and two years during Eisenhower's administration during the entire period 1933 to 1980.

Even during Reagan and Bush 1 they continued to hold the House which writes the appropriations bills until the second half of Clinton's first term.

They could care less about ideology or morality.
