In other news, people are panicking that the hands on the new Starbucks cup might be lesbian.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/11/17/1716480/-World-seems-intent-on-assigning-gender-and-sexuality-to-Starbucks-holiday-cup

In 2017, the issue is whether Starbucks’ very holiday-themed cup has lesbian hands on it.

The hands are a frickin’ line drawing, yet somehow people have decided the line drawing requires gender and sexuality, and while the Fox News headline currently says “Starbucks holiday cup causes social media buzz over mystery hands,” the URL says “Starbucks holiday cups accused pushing gay agenda.”

Starbucks did announce the cups with a video that included, among others, a lesbian couple, but they are not wearing the same clothes that the hands on the cups are wearing.

Lesbian, Gay, Hetero, or whatever flavor, it's still just sex. And it's the 21st century, a new day has dawned, a new era begun. We can TALK about it now, without hiding, or giggling, or resorting to painfully awkward euphemisms. Lesbians prefer short fingernails because of course they do, and there is no reason for that to make ANYONE uncomfortable. Or unamused.

I should have dug deeper into any number of stories available under the keywords "lesbian fingernails" on Google to answer your question. Perhaps I would have found something else that made the point in a mixed environment where most people haven't met each other. Perhaps they would have laughed, and in their impromptu research, come to a new understanding about some of the challenges I faced when I was single.

Or perhaps people would have taken offense anyway. *Shrug.* I did lighten some readers' days at a time when we all need to laugh.

Have a good day. We are.

I understood the image immediately. It's just that I believe that we are far too interested in how people have sex here on DU. The sex lives of people I'm not involved with are really none of my business. Yes, your image was immediately understandable, but also completely irrelevant to the discussion of the Starbuck's cup, which had nothing to do with that meme.

I found it troubling in a variety of ways, but primarily because of what I said in the first paragraph of this reply. Clearly, not everyone agrees with my opinion, but some certainly do, and have said so.

It's easy to offend people. It's also easy not to do so.

and then spend a few chuckles on and off throughout the day. These people. They never change. Few will even let the thought of change enter their little, shallow lives.

When they thought I was a lesbian because I was working for equality, surely a middle aged (then) woman would ONLY do this if she were, they would not even shake my hand in front of a TV reporter and cameras. One finally grabbed the tips of my fingers (I was NOT going to withdraw my offered hand), gave them a quick shake and then wiped his hand off on his lapel.

Oh the horror. If they continue to be shits about this all I can do is laugh at their discomfort and their worry that it is catching, even through a couple of non identifiable hands on a GD holiday cup of coffee.

that somebody is trying to pull one over on them. Liberal-leaning Starbucks puts secret liberal code drawings on their cups and then laughs when conservatives unknowingly drink from them. "Haha, look at him, he's drinking from a cup with lesbians holding hands, har, har, har." You can't be too vigilant in these times with liberals hiding behind every tree.
