I am hoping they stay home. But, this issue just might bring them out.

Alabama's pro-life voters choose between Roy Moore and staying home

Roy Moore's character is in the media's crosshairs. With a month to go before the election, the question is whether Alabama's Republican majority believes Moore or those accusing him of illicit sexual conduct. Either way, the Democratic candidate Doug Jones isn't an acceptable alternative for one major reason.
Moore's rock-ribbed supporters will show up and vote for him regardless of any allegations leveled against him. They think Moore was wrongly removed from office twice and that the latest accusations are evidence of liberals and the Washington establishment trying to destroy him.
Then there are voters like me.
I'm not about to defend the conduct alleged against Moore. Attempts to do so by several Republican officials from Alabama have been ghastly. I already had significant reservations about Moore's candidacy. His removals from judicial office strike me as disrespect for the rule of law rather than evidence of strong convictions.
The question is whether I'm going to show up and vote for Moore or not.
Jones is a great candidate in many respects. He's not a polarizing bomb-thrower. He is, by all accounts, a man of impeccable character with a storied legal career.
Unfortunately, his pro-choice perspective is simply out of step with the majority of Alabamians. Abortion isn't just an issue--it's the issue for pro-life voters. His view may be moderate for some in the Democratic Party, but it's a non-starter here.

(30,613 posts)The attitude actually comes from the slave era, when slaveholders used any means they wished, to increase the number of slaves held. Such means included forced slave-slave breeding, slaveholder-slave breeding, and pedophilia. Abortion of course would have circumvented the process and had to be banned.

(14,856 posts)The believe God will punish THEM for letting it go on. It doesn't matter whether they will be forced to do it. They must not allow anyone to have one. Preacher said so, so it must be true.

(7,683 posts)who believe that since god forgives Roy Moore, they should, too?

(14,856 posts)Never underestimate the mental gymnastics Christians can perform. They can convince themselves that any disgusting act they want to perform is actually God's will, and they'll be rewarded for doing it.

It really is about abortion vs. child molester.
