President Donald Trumps son, Eric Trump, said in an interview over the weekend that the investigation into Russias interference in the 2016 U.S. election is a total sham but he insisted that a special prosecutor should be appointed to probe the debunked charges against Hillary Clinton in the so-called Uranium One scandal.
During an interview that aired on Fox News on Sunday, host Maria Bartiromo noted that Donald Trump Jr. had become a target of the Special Counsel Robert Muellers investigation. For his part, Eric Trump insisted that he had not been interviewed by Mueller.
The Russia thing is a total sham! he exclaimed. Its total nonsense. There is zero collusion with Russia. Eric Trump then quickly pivoted to the dubious Uranium One case against Clinton.
To me, its such a travesty that thats not being investigated because there is something there and it smells and it looks horrible, he opined. Its horrible what happened and you see all the other bad facts. And you at least know the 33,000 emails and every thing else, the fact that they will look into nonsense, something that didnt happen, and that they will go on tangents for weeks and weeks about nonsense emails [between the Trump campaign and Wikileaks] and other things, but they wont look into hardcore facts.

(4,139 posts)He can feel the walls closing in around him.
And did he just confirm that there were multiple emails between the Trump campaign and Wikileaks, an organisation that stole data from the opposing party in a Presidential election. In that sense, this is exactly like Watergate.

(4,066 posts)That is all he's doing. FOX gives him the platform to be dishonest and the people watching WANT to hear that Hillary is a cook and did an illegal deal. They will believe him over their own eyes. Confirmation bias at its best.
It has to be diagnosed in the future as a form of mass panic hysteria. I'm serious. There is an actual, profound mental disorder going on here with these people.

(1,242 posts)is worth investigating since DOJ and FBI investigations started in 2009
"Before the Obama administration approved a controversial deal in 2010 giving Moscow control of a large swath of American uranium, the FBI had gathered substantial evidence that Russian nuclear industry officials were engaged in bribery, kickbacks, extortion and money laundering designed to grow Vladimir Putins atomic energy business inside the United States, according to government documents and interviews.
Federal agents used a confidential U.S. witness working inside the Russian nuclear industry to gather extensive financial records, make secret recordings and intercept emails as early as 2009 that showed Moscow had compromised an American uranium trucking firm with bribes and kickbacks in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, FBI and court documents show."
"Rather than bring immediate charges in 2010, however, the Department of Justice (DOJ) continued investigating the matter for nearly four more years, essentially leaving the American public and Congress in the dark about Russian nuclear corruption on U.S. soil during a period when the Obama administration made two major decisions benefiting Putins commercial nuclear ambitions.
"But FBI, Energy Department and court documents reviewed by The Hill show the FBI in fact had gathered substantial evidence well before the committees decision that Vadim Mikerin the main Russian overseeing Putins nuclear expansion inside the United States was engaged in wrongdoing starting in 2009."
"His illegal conduct was captured with the help of a confidential witness, an American businessman, who began making kickback payments at Mikerins direction and with the permission of the FBI. The first kickback payment recorded by the FBI through its informant was dated Nov. 27, 2009, the records show.
In evidentiary affidavits signed in 2014 and 2015, an Energy Department agent assigned to assist the FBI in the case testified that Mikerin supervised a racketeering scheme that involved extortion, bribery, money laundering and kickbacks that were both directed by and provided benefit to more senior officials back in Russia."
"The connections to the current Russia case are many. The Mikerin probe began in 2009 when Robert Mueller, now the special counsel in charge of the Trump case, was still FBI director. And it ended in late 2015 under the direction of then-FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump fired earlier this year.
Its many twist and turns aside, the FBI nuclear industry case proved a gold mine, in part because it uncovered a new Russian money laundering apparatus that routed bribe and kickback payments through financial instruments in Cyprus, Latvia and Seychelles. A Russian financier in New Jersey was among those arrested for the money laundering, court records show."
