Active shooter situation, Newark, DE (Pike Creek/Kirkwood Highway area)

Trying to find out more info, but the alert was raised approximately 1:20. Report from a coworker who was rerouted, there are about 20 or more County police cars in the area. At least 2 ambulances responding, but not sure whether they're responding from need or to be prepared. This is near the middle school my son attended.

I'll post more as I find out. I know we have some DUers who are here in the area with me.

From the updated Delaware Online article:

"A county police spokesman said this is not an active shooting incident, adding that an individual fired one shot. Officers are communicating with the individual who is holed up in a residence.

Helicopters can be seen flying above the area of Capitol Trail (Del. 2) and Meadowood Drive. County and state police are on the roadway holding automatic weapons. Other officers are walking through nearby neighborhoods with rifles slung around their necks.

Radio broadcasts, which broke about 1:20 p.m., reported that police were taking cover behind vehicles."

Apparently "active shooter" and "asshole taking potshots out a window of a house" are not the same thing. Roads surrounding the area are still closed, local schools, daycares, businesses are still on lockdown. Sounds like it's still pretty "active" to me.
