Anyone else watching The Nineties on CNN?

First episode is TV, and really interesting (and nostalgic). But what sort of surprised me is the very blunt discussion of news becoming commercial entertainment. Not that I didn’t think they know and are fine with it but the critique of something they’re doing still kind of draws you up short.

I saw OJ win and had to change the channel. I lived through that shit once and it was enough for a lifetime. I turned on a re run of History's "The Men Who Built America" instead, even though I saw it before too. It amazes me that Rockefeller, Morgan and Carnegie had a contest in their 70s about who could give away more of their money. I doubt any of the Moron's rich pals have given away a cent except to buy votes in Congress. Gates gives money away but Fuckerberg...forget it!

Later I hope to be able to figure out my new DVR and tape The Beatles.

I met in a youth hostel in Ireland in the summer of '95. Of course that was all the news consisted of at the time, but she had no idea what was going on. Plus, she didn't really speak much English. Just imagine trying to explain the white Bronco chase to someone who doesn't understand much English. I think the general consensus among Europeans was that Americans were up to their usual crazy antics.

last year and we found it difficult to convey the theater of that circus/shit show. I am glad that his release from prison was overshadowed by other news a few months ago (the Las Vegas shooting took attention away from him).
