Marine Colonel Announces He's Running Against Roy Moore

When retired Marine Col. Lee Busby read it was too late for a write-in candidate for the Alabama senate race, he said, “Hold my beer, we will just see about that.”

Busby told The Daily Beast on Monday he is launching his long-shot bid to stop Republican nominee Roy Moore from reaching the Senate.

“I have no idea if the allegations against him true or not, but I don’t see anything within his experience as a judge that qualifies him for the job.”

Busby said his state needs a choice other than Moore or Democrat Doug Jones.

I'm for his write-in campaign. I'd vote for Jones, of course, but I welcome Republicans to vote for Busby.

It is a rule for me never to enter that state again. I made that rule back in 1965, and have followed it ever since.

So, all I can do is make recommendations for those unfortunate enough to reside there.

I just drove from Central Florida to Louisiana which means going thru Alabama on interstate 10. In my situation would you truly go up to Tennessee, head west then south through MS?

I am not doubting you but it so that is some serious commitment!

Have a nice evening.

So, that dilemma won't come up. I have in-laws in Florida, but there is an airport there and here in Minnesota. I have no other reason to go to the Gulf Coast, otherwise.

Roll up the windows good and tight, and you'll be fine. No Roy Moore cooties will attack you.

Just curious about the avoiding Alabama comment.

Highly unlikely conservative Repubs from Alabama would be swinging to Jones anyways.

18. if he gets to 20% he's bad news for Moore. Under 10% he hurts Jones

If Colonel Nobody gets traction among the rank-and-file Neanderthals of Alabama, he'll start to bleed off from Roy Moore. But the thing to remember about conservatives is, they are herd animals. They are conformist and followers. They like the protection of being in the mob, whether it's the mob watching football on Sundays or the mob lynching an accused black man in the 1920s.

Until then, he'll just be giving an alternative to the people who pinched their noses and threw in with Jones. They weren't that many to begin with. You still have 40% of Alabama voters saying pedophilia ain't that bad compared to liberalism. This state will be tougher than Mississippi to win.

But pretty exciting.

8. I doubt those folks would vote for Jones if they don't like Dems

Our national party has deliberately kept this campaign as local as possible to distance him from national leaders.

In a very close race, a few votes could tip it.

10. The election is in 2 weeks, Busby doesn't have a platform, a party, or any campaign budget

I doubt he would make much of a difference, especially with the types of voters who would lean towards Jones

He would be an out for a few Moore voters who might know his name and write it in since it's not on the ballot.
