"cute" or appropriate to make his signature look like that of a very young child.

That said, one of my biggest beefs is thee trend in schools to halt teaching cursive... so maybe?

12. Oh, I assumed it as hand written, but I'd surely hope an 11 yo could write in a less childish way

14. I try to tiptoe around what may be interpreted as criticizing a child

but as I recall being an 11-year-old, I was aggressively developing my own personality, and part of that was my signature. The sig on the card looks to be from a 6 or 7-year-old.

Again - not picking on a child, but that whole family dynamic is plain weird.

for better or worse; when you do most of your things digitally there isn't the constant regularity of writing anymore. It's problematic but at the same time the kids are writing/typing much more detailed and engaging papers even at a younger age since they're more natural at that.

16. I wouldn't pick on Barron's sig. My 17yo son

is an honors/AP student, Cambridge program graduate, and his sig would definitely look similar. When he takes his time he can print neatly, can use and read cursive, although that's not something he likes to do. Very often he doesn't take his time to make his work neat because everything is done on the computer.

There is an entire area of instruction and drill that he is missing -- penmanship (he only had it in 4th grade), and typing/keyboarding. With all the computer use nowadays and tests being done on the computer, you'd think typing/keyboarding would be a required class, but it wasn't. I bought him a program to increase his typing skills, and it's helped speed his typing up, but he's nowhere near where I was when I graduated high school (85wpm after subtracting for 5 errors).

So while Barron's sig is a bit rough around the edges and not what I would expect of an 11yo, it's believably his signature.
