Manchin, Heitkamp won't rule out voting for GOP tax bill
By Alexander Bolton
Centrist Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) and Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.) are not ruling out voting for the Senate GOP tax plan, even though the chances of them doing so appear slim.
Manchin and Heitkamp, who are both up for reelection next year, have not yet decided whether they will vote against the motion to proceed or against the bill on final passage. Both told reporters they can't say for sure until they know all the details of the legislation.
"We haven't seen the final version. We think they're still trying to find ways to get 51 votes," Manchin said.
Republican senators say they don't expect Manchin or Heitkamp to get them to the 51 votes, but they think they might support the measure in the end if the bill appears headed to President Trump's desk.
Heitkamp said "it's unfair to ask that question" when asked whether she would oppose the tax bill on final passage.

(19,348 posts)I can accept their moderating stances on issues that matter to their states (coal/Dakota Pipeline).
I cannot accept this transfer of wealth to those that already have so much.

(24,412 posts)Hope Schumer has "the talk" with both of them VERY soon. Nothing good will come from voting for this POS bill or supporting any part of the Trump/GOP agenda for the American people and Republicans in their states will hate them and refuse to vote for them all the same because they still have a "D" attached to their names.
DUers in those states: You know what to do.......

(14,971 posts)This bill raises taxes on the poor and middle class, dismantles the ACA, cuts 25 billion dollars out of Medicare, taxes graduate students....... and tons more. Disgusting

(4,267 posts)Remember the debt? Yes, that thing that reps love to bitch about so much when dems are in power.

(14,971 posts)The reason they don't care about increasing the deficit is because then they can come back and claim that the debt's skyrocketing and now they're going have to cut Social Security and Medicare to fix it. Even he hates this bill and has been posting about it on Twitter numerous times a day.

REPUBLICANS ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. THEIR DONORS ARE THEIR ONLY "FRIENDS".
Pardon the caps, but it's frustrating how gullible so many on here are.

Yeah, this "plan" is good - for Wall Street!
Manchin - WTF!!!!
Your people are on the bottom of the income level (remember how IQ45 won because "coal is coming back" ) and will be seriously screwed over by this "plan." If you can't make a good argument for YOUR people as to why you cannot support it - well, get the resume updated - you need a new job!

(101,312 posts)or an ideological belief that the rich are always taxed too much in the USA, and the poor not enough. Democratic politicians should have neither. Voters hate it; economists say it will hurt the USA overall. This ought to be a no-brainer for a Democrat, or a centrist.
Seriously, are they saying they're open to bribes, if the price is right?

"Unfair" to ask how you'll vote on an incredibly damaging POS bill?
