Federal appeals court won’t block Alabama same-sex marriage ruling

Source: LGBTQ Nation

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A federal appeals court order has cleared the way for same-sex marriages to begin next week in Alabama, with the panel refusing to stay a decision overturning the state’s ban.

On Tuesday, the three-judge panel from the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange’s request for the stay.

U.S. District Judge Callie Granade last month ruled that two Alabama laws prohibiting the recognition of same-sex marriages unconstitutional. Granade put a hold on her order until Monday to let the state appeal.
David Kennedy, a lawyer for a Mobile couple who challenged the ban, has asked Granade to lift the stay immediately instead of waiting.

A update: Alabama asks U.S. Supreme Court to stay same-sex marriage ruling

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama attorney general is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the state to continue to block same-sex marriages until the high court issues a ruling on gay marriage later this year.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange on Tuesday asked the Supreme Court to keep a hold on a district judge’s decision overturning the state’s ban on gay marriage. The filing came after the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused to issue a stay, paving the way for Alabama to become the 37th state where gays can legally wed.

Of course that's the only way it would have ever happened. Once again Alabama will go down in history as being on the wrong side of the issues of the time. This is a place where people think any movement away from the old ideals constitutes moral decay. They are also the most negative and paranoid people you could interact with.

They fought it to the bitter end. We still have a lot of county court houses stopping the performance of all ceremonies at the court house so they don't have to perform same-sex ceremonies.

and finally eviscerated by the U.S. Supreme Court. So I guess when it comes to equal rights FOR ALL, even California is no different than Mississippi or any other "red" State.

In ye bad olde days, way before the wave of marriage rulings, the Onion ran an article where a gay man asked, "Where is the gay neighborhood in Mobile?" Now, he's probably doing okay!
