Bad Weather Delays US Woman's Execution
World | Agence France-Presse | Updated: February 26, 2015 08:12 IST

Washington: The execution on Wednesday of a woman in the US state of Georgia was put off for several days because of a winter storm and "associated scheduling issues," authorities said.

Kelly Gissendaner, 46, had been set to die by lethal injection at 7:00 pm local time at a prison in Jackson, south of Atlanta, becoming the first woman to be executed in Georgia in 70 years. Her execution was delayed until the same time on Monday.

Gissendaner was sentenced to death for the 1997 killing of her husband, from whom she had separated several times and even divorced before remarrying.

She recruited her lover to carry out the murder and claim her husband's life insurance. The boyfriend pleaded guilty and testified against her. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Yes, but she's only a woman, ergo, more expendable. In Georgia, anyway. nt valerief Feb 2015 #6
Yeah, thats how come so many female killers are executed in GA. Oh wait, they're NOT. 7962 Feb 2015 #10
The scarcity of female killers has nothing do with the plethora of hate for females. nt valerief Feb 2015 #12
Thats the POINT, there isn't a scarcity of female killers. But they rarely get the DP. 7962 Feb 2015 #18
Uh, haven't you noticed the killer gender gap? This study has women killers at < 15%. valerief Feb 2015 #19

What is an execution, after all, if you can't mock the prisoner's appearance? n/t Judi Lynn Feb 2015 #14
I'm not mocking anyone's appearance, their life or death. The meal was planned for the 19th. freshwest Feb 2015 #16

Call off the execution and let her live out her days in prison with no possibility of parole.

If you were correct, we'd be lining them up to be executed. As it is now, in Ga they usually get more leeway BECAUSE they're female.

Where did abortion get mentioned? And when did I ever say I was against it?
Ga has ONE woman on death row. ONE. So how does that square up with your ridiculous theory?

But this case I, also, disagree with.

A pedophile raping and killing children...execute the fucker.

This is more of a life without parole case.

What in the world ever brought those two to marry and divorce and marry again, and all that happened afterward, we'll never know.

If a professional knew the history, they could write a book with a title like:

'Destroying Your Life'

Because 3 lives were ruined, not even counting other family members.

Some states are balking at the last meal, and if I sounded flip, I did not mean what you are accusing me. You are projecting here and it says more about you than me.

How do you know I don't have family members that look like her? How do you know whether I like fast food or not myself?

I picked the first image that referred to her execution from google, as it also has the picture of her husband. I don't have a problem with her looks, I know a lot of people who look like she does in that photo. Are you saying people should find her tworth mocking?

The question came to mind if the State of Georgia would continue to discriminate against her, as some could easily make a case for that. It looks as if she treated unfairly. For goodness sakes, the woman is only 48 years old, and look what her life has been. Georgia just can't wait to kill her.

Did she get the meal then, or get the meal later? Will they deny her last request, as pitiful as it is, after years of being locked away like that? Will they deny her one last lousy meal?

And none of the stories I googled said WHY she did this. Was there abuse involved, even though that is not an excuse for murder. Something was definitely going on between this couple. Also there was no mention of children, but then, stories are getting shortened.

More importantly, why do they need to execute her anyway, as her life has been nothing but hell, misery and confusion?

If I was you I'd focus on the very sad story this is, rather than appearance. Earlier photos I found, were from the trial, if you care about her looks. She was much younger and smaller then. Now she has spent years in prison, which is bad for anyone's health.

As far as I'm concerned, she should get that last meal. After all, they are taking her life from her.
