Jeb Bush Gets Boos At CPAC, Pleads Unfamiliarity On 'Ways Of Washington'
Source: TPM
It was hardly a coronation for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) when he appeared onstage at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday.
In a back and forth with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Bush took on boos from the crowd twice for standing by his support of a bill that allowed the children of undocumented immigrants to pay in-state college tuition rates. I know theres disagreement here," Bush said to those in the crowd booing. "I feel your pain."
Bush stressed that Republicans need to "start being for things again," rather than being defined as a purely oppositional party. He said that many Americans "don't know that they're conservative" yet and that the GOP had the policies to attract Latinos and young voters.
Perhaps in an effort to prove his conservative credentials on the immigration issue, he told Hannity he wants to achieve a solution in which immigrants "don't get government benefits" and "learn English."

Not even conservatives like Jeb, I'm surprised I thought they'd cream themselves over another potential Bush in the White House to fawn over.

(9,960 posts)...Hannity helped him appear "tough" to the crowd. Didn't seem to be many boos when I watch on CSPAN3. Still, the Dem nom. will rip him to shreds. Phil Robertson was awful and lied thru his speech!

(18,636 posts)CPAC has Hannity giving the town hall treatment to all the potential candidates, but it appears he gives hardball queries to those he deems weak while buttering the bread for his personal favorites.
Perhaps he's pre-programmed by the PAC organizers and not acting on his own accord, but it seems an odd way to introduce the GOP hopefuls to the public. Why don't they forgo the dog and pony show and nominate their Hoover/McCarthy clone now.
Considering the incredibly high bar the Republicans have set for right wing purity this cycle, this should be an interesting process.

(8,812 posts)... that our leading candidate is pretending to be liberal.
If it hasn't become it already, this entire election is going to devolve into a kind of a grotesque pantomime.
The candidates will take part in a stylized performance, but in the end, corporations aren't going to let anyone they can't control get anywhere near the White House.

(16,149 posts)ignorant about all of it. What a fantastic load of bullshit. I'm sure half of the Republican base will go along with it, anyway, since they're not too keen on thinking about things too much...

(23,156 posts)that he's apparently willing to stick to his guns about the children of undocumented immigrants paying in-state tuition. That's a very winning strategy for someone who wants to get the Hispanic vote, as well as a very humane thing to support. If he changes on this, then we will know for sure that he will do and say anything to be elected.
